I think we should start looking other centars like Dalembert because we can't fight with injuries any more. Why would we want to wait until january? it is too big risk

Maybe the Blazers don't give him the qualifying offer now, which would put him into our price range.

Agree. I think this'll be the straw. New GM, already flatly said he'll deal with Andre Miller and Oden "After the Draft" (or, likely in the new CBA). Wouldn't be surprised if they quietly declined his option.

January of which year? Have they narrowed that one down yet?

Actually, I think it's smoke to discourage other teams' interest in beating the Blazers' QO.

Portland's owners have some of the deepest pockets in the league.  Since giving Oden the QO will really cost them nothing but cash, I think it is a no brainer that they do it.

Particularly with the new GM in place, I don't think they want to risk one of their first decisions being letting a potential franchise center walk away, when all it would have taken to keep him another year was a qualifying offer.

The question of course is, will other teams make longterm offers large enough to entice Oden, forcing Portland to make a bigger decision.  My guess is no.  I think teams will be too afraid, and will want team options, etc. and Oden will just take the one year offer, and hope he can prove he deserves top of the market money.

Paying him the MLE is WAY to big of a risk. If the C's have enough room in their cap it should not be that much. But having the MLE as the only difference maker for this team and spending it in a fragile but potentially good Center is way too big of a gamble.

Just spend it on someone else.

I just wanna throw this in. Sign Jason Collins for the vet. minimum. That guy is solid and can be the 3rd string center.

Oden would be a great guy to gamble on, if there is some sort of amnesty / non-guaranteed contracts in the next CBA.
