...  so, would you call up Orlando and quietly offer them Wade for Dwight Howard (assuming that Dwight would immediately sign an extension)?

See, I think if they trade Bosh, giving more minutes to Haslem makes them a better team.  When he's healthy, Haslem gives them what they need.  He's more the Oakley/Grant type.

I agree, the Wade/LeBron combo isn't a great fit (too much duplication of skillsets), but I can't see either being traded.  Except, MAYBE, for Dwight.

In a heartbeat.

The front court of Lebron, Bosh and Howard would be the best since the real big three.

Then go and find two guards that can defend and hit open 3s.

Of course Orlando says no unless Howard demands a trade.

He's done everything except.  He's twelve months from walking without compensation, and you could receive a top-5 player in return.  If you trade with the Lakers (the other obvious trade partner), you're getting Bynum.  He ain't top 5!

It may be too early, I think both squads give it another go until the deadline.  But, if Miami makes that call, I think Orlando *has* to take that offer.  Dwight ain't re-signing.

He has said he wants to return.  Until that changes, no trade is going to happen.

He says he wants to return, yet he won't sign an extension.  It's not like there's any negotiating over the dollars; the maximum allowed on both fronts.  If he TRULY wanted to stay in Orlando, he'd just sign.

But, he wants to become a free agent, I'm assuming because he wants to see how badly Orlando's going to regress next year.  And....  it's going to be a lot.

EDIT: In the end, I don't think Dwight wants to sound like a jerk to the Orlando fans.  I'd be absolutely shocked if he wanted to re-commit to another five years; the team around him is a mess, and they don't have many options to improve it.

EDIT 2: The only reason I'd hold off on trading for Wade if I'm Orlando is potential changes in the CBA.  Could well be that Dwight's looking at much lower "max" dollars under a new agreement.  Given the likelihood of max contract values and guaranteed years being reduced, sure makes it more curious that Dwight doesn't want to sign an extension now, under the current CBA.

Off the court I've seen very little that makes me think Bosh isn't a likeable guy. On the court is a different story though. He comes off as a soft frontrunner. Not to say he isn't a good basketball player but it's not a coincidence he disappeared when battling KG and Chandler down low.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I understood his move to Miami.  Who wouldn't leave Toronto the way it's been run?

I also think he is the most underfeed player on that team.  He has become the "bail out" jump shooter.  A Charles Oakley/Horace Grant type offensive PF.

That's trouble for Bosh/Miami if he is going have those players' offensive role on the team (and I don't disagree with you). Oakley and Grant were MUCH better defenders/rebounders than Bosh can ever hope to be.

As for Bosh's personality, I could take it or leave it. I know he is just excited to be on a good team, but he has some pretty annoying moments. I know everyone is hating Lebron (which is making some people feel bad for him), but he is the best player in the league - he can do whatever he wants and I would be jumping up and down if he were on the Celtics.

For all the  knocks on Bosh's defense, he played good enough for Miami to look like one of the top playoff defenses.

He does need to rebound better.

You are right. His length and quickness make him a decent defender and I think he basically gives the effort. It's just that I think back to those 90s Knicks teams with Oakley and I see a completely different player. If Bosh was ever that 'tough', I would be first in line for his services.

Dwight Howard is only willing to return to Orlando if the team is capable of winning a Championship.

If they are, Orlando is his first option. If they aren't, he's gone.

So, let me ask you, Who.

If you're Miami, do you trade Wade for Dwight (with an extension)?

If you're Orlando, do you trade Dwight (50/50 at *best* to resign) for Wade?

Oakley provided a toughness Bosh could not.

Heck, Oakley would have been a perfect player to put next to Bosh.

Orlando would be better off sending him outside of Florida for marketing reasons alone.

Plus if you're blowing up your team you want younger talent, not an older SG high level talent like Wade.

Miami = yes absolutely, a Dwight + LeBron combo is better than Wade + LeBron.

Once I acquire Dwight, I immediately trade C.Bosh for better supporting pieces. Most likely for a couple of pieces (say a pair of average to slightly above average starters at positions of need with Haslem taking over the PF duties) rather than a third star due to Bosh's so-so trade value.

Orlando = definitely, no better offers out there than D-Wade if Dwight decides to leave and he will decide to leave ... it's only a matter of time.

If you thought James and Wade had issues in the same offense, wait and see LeBron and Dwight. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that the 2008 front line of PP/KG/Perk would be considerably more effective on the court than that trio. Put similar guards on that team and the real big three and the Heat would get beaten pretty badly.

Bosh is certainly the lesser player of the three evils.

Not really.

Pick and roll with that amount of size?

Can big men afford to leave Howard to stop a Lebron drive?

And defensively, Lebron will be able to take more chances with that level of defender behind him.

Upgrade the guards to simple strong outside shooters who can play team defense.

Wow, I cannot believe that this turned into a Dwight to Miami debate. Can't comment since Dwight can pretty much go anywhere he wants.
