To throw a new name out there, I will go with Zaza Pachulia.

Now, he is not someone I think is being actively shopped, but he could be a potential target, particularly if Atlanta makes some moves to get a new Center.

Pachulia is affordable, is a nice all around player, and brings some of the toughness and the enforcer mentality that we lost with Perk.  He is not the defender that Perk is, but he is at least solid on that side of the ball, and I think he would be a very good player to put next to KG.

Zaza is not a solid defender. He is a poor defensive C.

I disagree.  I think he is a very solid defender.  He is not a good shotblocker, but he is a solid positional defender, and can hold his own in the post.

In other words, he isn't Perk, but he also isn't Krstic.

Actually, that is a great comparison.

Zaza Pachulia = Nenad Krstic  ...  in terms of defensive ability

How about a Krstic who is not afraid to get physical and use his strength.

They are probably comparable as far as defensive skills, but Pachulia is a MUCH more physical player, which makes him significantly more effective defensively.

I disagree, I don't think Zaza is any more effective defensively than Krstic. I consider them on the same level defensively.

Zaza is a far superior rebounder vs Krstic though. A solid rebounder (Zaza) vs a poor to very poor one (Krstic).

The reason Atlanta (1) started J.Collins at center instead of Zaza, and, (2) have limited Zaza's minutes over the past two years despite wanting to get Al Horford more playing time at PF alongside a legitimate center ... is because of his bad defense.

He is a below average defensive player. A below average man-to-man defender who is a weak post defender + weak defender on bigs away from the rim ... and is a weak team defender who is below average in defensive rotations, transition defense and pick and roll defense. About average on switches.

Atlanta's defense drops off by a fairly big margin whenever Zaza Pachulia enters the game.

Agree to disagree on the defense.  But either way, if the C's could get their hands on Zaza, can we at least agree he would be a valuable addition, if even for reliable depth in the frontcourt, and perhaps a little bit more toughness?

Zaza would be fine. An adequate backup C. I don't think he offers anything more than Krstic did. More rebounding, less offense. Fairly comparable overall impact.

I would be much more interested in acquiring someone like Kwame Brown who can give the team quality interior defense + above average rebounding.

Yeah, I would like both of them.  Given JO's fragility, if the C's can't get a top line starting center (and perhaps even if they can), I think they need to get 2 rotation quality centers.

So, if they can find a way to say, swing BBD for a solid guy like Zaza, and then sign a guy like Kwame to solidify their interior defense, I think it will put them in a solid position, and also allow them to interchange a guy like JO or Zaza at PF and center.

I just think we have seen over the last two years how important quality depth is at the center position, so getting as many proven bodies in there as possible should be a goal this offseason.

Recently read Kwame Brown raving about Paul Silas as a coach. Unless Charlotte offends him with a lowball offer, I don't see Kwame leaving Charlotte.
