Boston sign and trade Green to Detroit for Gordon

In a second trade, Boston send a 2nd and TE (Daniels) for Wallace.

Then, sign Daniel for the vet min and save the MLE for another big man.

I think you've got to wait a little into the season before you consider something along the lines of the Gordon trade. The cap space thing is a bit of a pipe dream, but I wouldn't want to threaten our chances with anything but a sure thing. And I don't think Ben Gordon is that.

I like it.  I am a big fan of Gordon, and although he is overpaid, I think he will look a lot better playing with a PG.

I also love the Wallace idea (I was thinking something similar, and would consider even giving up the first round pick...or maybe swapping our first for their second rounder).  Wallace is certainly getting old, but he was still a very good defender and rebounder last year, and he puts this team in a much stronger position this offseason, where they won't be completely locked in to spending the MLE on a center.

This is a "go for it" trade.

Gordon would give the Celtics that offensive pop they are looking for off the bench.  Wallace gives the Celtics a 15-20 minute garbage man C.  Daniels gives them the backup SF.

Along with West, Davis and Avery, I think the Celtics have a good bench.

I understand the logic, and I'm not opposed to a 'go for it' trade, I just don't think you make that kinda move for Ben Gordon.

I think he is the type of bench impact player the Celtic could add that would make a difference.

A good player slightly overpayed for a few years.

I don't see how a S&T of Green would work to bring back Gordon's salary. The numbers on Green's base year would have to be well north of $10 million.

Most likely it would take JO's contract to make it work.

That's sort of kills that idea.

Maybe? BYC status was always one part of the Larry Coon CBA FAQ that I found hard to completely grasp.

I kind of like this. SG is a lot harder to fill than SF and honestly, Pierce has 3-5 years of 14+ PPG and starting level defense. Pierce isn't overpaid, he isn't declining, and he is a perfect leader. We really don't have a need for Green, who needs to start. Gordon is short for a SG, but he can hit shots. Another thing is that he's 28. Not too old, not too young. Plus playing with Rondo will increase the longevity of his career. He's set to make 11 million next season, and 12 million after that. Then he can be resigned for 7-9 million a year. Do it! Davis is more important than Green.

Would this be our depth chart for next year

PG) Rondo, West(a must resign), Bradley
SG) Allen, Gordon
SF) Pierce, Daniels
PF) KG, Baby(must resign. too important to let walk)
C) Jermaine, ?

+ 2 draft picks

Still leaving 2 spots for someone else (Von wafer? Kwame Brown? Sasha Pavlovic? Troy Murphy?)

Not if either player receives a significant raise.

Yep. Salaries are the problem. Not sure we want to take on 3 years at $42m for player who can't even spell defense. Much better off using the MLE on J. R. Smith who at least potentially can play D in the Celtic system, and he'll come much cheaper. If the Quis TPE can't be used as part of a major trade then I'm all for flipping it for Wallace.

I wouldn't mind having Gordon and Wallace but right now the way the roster looks (and of course this is going to change as the offseason progresses) Green's versatility is more important than having Gordon who is just a 2.  You figure Rondo, Ray, and assuming we sign West, can easily take up 85-90 minutes of the 96 minutes/game for the guard positions.

I see a lot more minutes needing to be filled at the 3 and 4 (especially if BBD does not return) for Pierce and KG which is the perfect way to get Green the minutes he needs.
