What do we need to become a team similar to win, like the Mavericks?

Up front and foremost: a true center.
We have better point guards if we manage to re-sign Delonte...

We don't need to be like the Mavs.  The Mavs have got that covered.  We have to maximize the team that we are.

BBD is built like Tractor Traylor (RIP), maybe we can trade him for a Euro star. Joking aside, the Mavs have Kidd, Terry, Stevenson, Dirk, Peja, and JJ hitting those 3 point bombs. The Celtics only have PP, Rayray and Delonte. Plus, Chandler is pretty active down low on both ends. Marion did a decent job on james, and they didn't have to rely too much on his offense. PP does a really good job defensively on james but he also is being counted upon to supply some offense.

1.) A Tyson Chandler-like (or Tyson himself) center.
2.) Be able to hold a lead in the 4th and not running out of gas.
3.) Injury free season.

Why do you want to be like the Mavs?

Reliant on one superstar to play tremendous night in and night out and the rest of the team a jump shooting, perimeter oriented 3 point shooting team?

The Mavs play a gimmick zone defense to boot...naw that's not for us.

Nothing. The Mavs are far from a championship team. This is a year a team can squeak in past the Lakers and Spurs and Celtics. They'll never be close to this again. The Celtics need to worry about one thing, defense. If they're number one next year, they win. Period.

TP.  The Mavs are a very good team and I'm happy for Dirk, he's got a competitive team year in and year out and he probably deserved to win one.  But the last thing the C's need is to become a team like the Mavs.  There hasn't been a surer bet to be a one-hit wonder in a long time.

Forget about the mavs. A good athletic center will do the trick.

Players to close the middle and learn the zone defense as a change-up defense against the Heat.  Lebron says the inability of him being able to play on the inside bothered his game.

Yeah, it's just a matter of the bigs IMO.

You have to be able to contest Wade and LeBron at the hoop without fouling

I disagree, to a larger extent the C's problem was that we couldn't score in the half court like Dallas was able to do.

We need a healthy Rondo and another good offensive spark off the bench. Improved big man play from the C and backup PF position won't be enough (though they'd help certainly)

We were number 2 this year by a very small (statistically barely signifigant if at all) to the Bulls.

Both the Bulls and the Celtics still lost despite their defense, we need a better offense.

Look at Games 4 & 5, we were right there but couldn't score at all during the closing stretch of those games.
