So Mike, I don't get it.

You mad that Riley didn't get superstars for the Heat's PG and Center spots?

You want Miami to be even more stacked then they already are?

Some say you can stick any joe off the street and play them next to Wade, Lebron and Bosh and the Heat would still win.

But basketball is still a team game and the opposition are the best in the world.

So it doesn't work out that way, which is why you saw Spoelestra's revolving door at the PG and Center spot.

Some guys play better with others. Different units mesh better than other units.

My admittedly self-centered point is this.  I didn't think the Miller signing made much sense from the very beginning, thought the Haslem signing was at least questionable and that giving a 5 year contract to Joel Anthony was flat out dumb.  Yet when I expressed those views here, certain people who shall remain nameless fell all over themselves defending Riley's moves and his obvious plan to put a "winning time" line up on the floor that didn't have a true PG or a true center as either brilliant or that it really didn't matter because Bron and Wade were just so great they'd compensate for any possible problem.

Now, given what we've seen in the regular season, the playoffs and that just about everybody agrees that Miami needs to make significant improvements in their team if they want to even come close to fulfilling their supposedly historic potential, I want to point out that the criticisms I and others had of the make up of the Heat roster have been somewhat validated.

And wouldn't you know it?  There are still some people who want to defend Riley's moves or pretend there were no other options.

At center, Louis Amundson, Amir Johnson and Brendan Haywood.  You might argue for Haslem over those guys, but not Joel Anthony.

As other posters mentioned - still not seeing any viable alternatives. The Heat could not have signed Haywood.

I don't see point guard play being all that big a problem for the Heat - Mario Chalmers has been very good. Haslem is playing pretty well right now too. Bibby is terrible and shouldn't be in the rotation.

Riley did everything he could and in the Finals, the Heat are clearly a more talented team. It's just a question of whether the players on the court can put it together.

Well, I guess I was wrong.  Obviously, Riley spending all of his remaining cap room to sign a back-up swingman, a back-up power forward and Joel Anthony instead of even trying to get a legitimate NBA center or a legitimate starting point guard was genius all along.  Riley was so unbelievably brilliant to know that the team would never wind up in a position where they'd have to rely on someone like Mario Chalmers in the 4th quarter of the decisive game in the Finals.

Congratulations to the Miami Heat on the first of what will now clearly be many championships!

I would rather have had Joel Anthony than Shaq. But that's me.

Thrilled for the Mavericks and happy to see James now 2-8 in the Finals. #HatersGonnaHate.

You cannot conclude that those were bad signings because they lost in game 6 of the NBA finals, Mike.

And while we're hating on NBA greats, let's all take a moment to remember that MJ dealt probably second most important Mav, Tyson Chandler, in a salary dump.

On the 20th anniversary of his 1st title. Presti blew it with Chandler too.

Mike

You can't expect Riles to hit homeruns with every move!!!

How many times has Danny Ainge struck out since the summer of 2007?

That's right. And Chandler had been a fan favorite in Oklahoma City. Although Presti at least seems to have taken note, see trading for a still recovering Kendrick Perkins.
