Does this mean I've heard the phrase "Hand down, man down!" for the last time?  This is great news.
"When I was a rookie, [Bird] and Kevin McHale were arguing.  So I asked Kevin McHale what they were arguing about.  And he says, 'we're just trying to figure out who you're going to guard.'  I said, 'what you mean?' and he said, 'oh, you're dead meat, rook.'" - Charles Barkley

Meh.  I want to like the Warriors but having Mark Jackson as a coach makes that very difficult.
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

Fantastic news.

Bloody awful commentator ... no longer have to listen to his nonsense sayings. Delighted.

Not convinced he'll be up to much as a head coach though. I don't like these guys that skip stages in their coaching development and just assume that they can be a head coach. I like seeing people like Brian Shaw who has put in time as an assistant coach learning his craft before he makes the leap to a full time head coach.

More often than not, I think these ex-players who skip those lessons ... they end up struggling and failing. The odd one succeeds here and there but overall it's generally a bad idea.

And I think Mark Jackson as a head coach - at this point in his life - is one of those bad ideas.

Why do NBA teams keep giving these jobs to guys with no coaching experience?

I don't think he is head coach material.

Good Luck Mark even though we don't have a way of knowing what type of coach you will make.

thank god my ears will have a well-deserved reprieve from his moronic commentary.  now if we could only get rid of Van Gundy too that would make my day.

I'm stunned that anyone listening to his uninsightful, superstar-worshipping, hackneyed, cliched-riddled commentary could ever think this is head coach material.  Of course, this is Golden State we're talking about so I shouldn't be too surprised.   ::)

The most important aspect of getting an NBA job is impressing an owner.

Being a former player and TV personality is a big leg up in doing that.

Im happy for him but disappointed at the same time. I feel that he is part of such an incredible commentary trio. He will be missed and it will be hard to watch non Celtics games without him and van gundy going at it the way they do.

Doc Rivers...I'm having trouble finding information on whether or not he was an assistant coach in his gap from the end of his playing days to Orlando, but he won Coach of the Year in his first year with the Magic with a questionable roster.

Just put "Hand Down, Man Down", "Momma there goes that man", "Great Defense, better offenese" on a loop every 30 seconds. You won't miss a thing except the occasional short joke at van Gundy.

Doc was essentially an assist coach, third string PG for the last few years of his career. The Spurs hired him as a radio commentator I believe to keep him around the team and with the organization. I believe he worked with the players still if not as an official coach.

If Greg Popovich had been fired Doc was probably going to be the Spurs next coach.

I get that.

But I think they miss the boat sometimes.  I think some these guys can become good coaches, but they need time to learn it.

Then you have life time coaches that take forever to get a chance.

Plus, if a team wants to  make big name splash, there are ex players coaching as assistants.  Give them a shot.

Does anyone find it interesting that Scottie Pippen, who has been trying to get a coaching job for years, has never been seriously considered for one even though he has six rings and was one of the smartest players ever to play?

Yet, guys like Vinny Del Negro and Mark Jackson get hired with no experience at all.
