Why does everybody want to get rid of Wafer?

I think almost every pundit on the internet are saying not to re-sign Von Wafer. What!?

The guy can start on some lesser teams. He's cheap. He's 25, meaning he will improve. He is buying in to the defense. He's the athletic spark that comes off the bench. He knows the plays the team runs.

I can see almost no downside to keeping this guy.

Edit: Sorry, his contract is indeed expired.

I like Wafer, but if he has to be part of a deal that makes our top 8 better then so be it.

I haven't seen anyone say trade Wafer...mainly because he is not under contract.  

The question is whether we resign him or not, and I think that will come down to what kind of contract he wants.  If he is willing to come back for standard raise on last years deal, then I think it is a no-brainer to bring him back as a guy who already knows the system, and can hopefully take the next step next year, and at least provide them depth.

Right. VW is a free bird, and as refreshing as it was to watch him buy into the system we may be better off with Sasha's size and perimeter defense if we're talking vet. mini.

I'd keep him. If Von or Sasha are willing to take the minimum again, i would gladly take them back.

They are good enough to be a 9th man or so.

ok defense, ok shooting, solid size. They have the solid all around baseline of skills.

I think he'll be compelled to resign and may accept the  vet. mini with a raise attached. Mentally he's in a good place with this group and if he can stay injury free he'll surely be a key contributor, which will pay him more $$ in 2012.

My first choice would probably be to try and bring back West for cheap and to sign a real back-up point guard, with the intention of having Avery Bradley get occasional minutes at shooting guard.

I just don't see a huge gulf that would make me disappointed if they kept Wafer and let West go.  That's mainly due to West being about as big of an injury risk as Jermaine O'Neal.

I agree that we should keep Wafer.  He'll come relatively cheap, and I think there's reason to believe he'd improve with more time and consistency on the team.
