I was a competitive fencer for a decade. For those of you who don't know in fencing who scores is entirely decided by a referee and it was a well known bit of fencing psychology that you could get a referee in a rhythm calling things a certain way. If I score a point that is clearly mine early then if I keep doing the same thing that got me that point the referee will probably keep giving me the point even if it was less clear.

Sounds like wrestling. The real kind..not the..less real kind.

Probably, that's the only issue with combat sports, so much power is in the refs hands.

i think UFC does a good job with its refs, even though the ref doesn't really do much in UFC. the WWE probably has the worst refs. :P

I didn't watch because of school, but if true I am not surprised not one bit. The Mavs biggest issue in winning will probably be the refs and the calls made.I find it sad that it's come to refs for a team to even win a championship.
Yea LeBron gets his ring, but Stern will be losing a ton of money off of it from NBA fans.

I'm sure someone else can explain it better, but in highschool wrestling, the refs assign points to advantages gained and whatnot. If a guy really wants to humiliate an opponent, he'll point him out (as in score a bunch), by doing the same crap over and over without letting the opponent ever gain an advantage to make it equal.

With Stern in charge, no. Sucks, doesn't it?

They weren't too bad in this game, but that crucial stretch in the middle of the fourth of about 3 bad calls in Miami's favor swung momentum for good. Same thing happened to us in game 2 with Baby not getting calls and then Wade/Lebron drawing mysterious fouls on the ensuing possessions. Heat are amazing at building insurmountable leads on the heels of poor refereeing before you can bat an eye. Never seems to happen the other way around.

I suppose you see what you want to see.

I counted at least 5 calls that should've gone in Miami's direction that didn't. 2 of the fouls called on LeBron were garbage (his second one and I think one where he stripped Dirk under the basket and got all ball).

In a game where Miami was attacking the basket more than the Mavs, the Mavs shot more free throws and we're going to cry conspiracy? The Heat are just that good.

Didnt the Mavs go to the line way more than the Heat? At least they had when I was watching I dont know about the end of the game.

"The Heat are just that good."

That's the problem. When a team is really good and the refs are also turning a blind eye, they become unstoppable.

As the NBA goes, game 1 was about as well called as it ever gets.  The reality is that Terry, Peja and Berea can't go 4-21 from the field, missing at least 5 or 6 perfectly makeable shots, for Dallas to have any chance against Miami.

if you don't think that Stern wants the Heat to win in the worst way, you are living in a fantasy world.

that tech on Carlisle for protesting Bron's deliberate elbow to the face of Dirk is just another example of the lopsided officiating for the Heat.

for what it's worth though, watching game 2---Heat are going to the basket whereas Dallas is shooting mostly jumpers.  Dallas needs to get more aggressive.  That, and Kidd has to stop making really stupid turnovers.

I always thought the Celtic Nation's oficial position was that the Lakers were Stern's favorites and that he would do whatever was necessary to make them win this year as he has done in the past.

Touché to the fencing master. I can see your point and would agree with you. Attacking team,s will get a lot more calls than jump shooting teams like the Senior Celtic Citizens. Thats the way it is and same teams will adapt to it instead of whining. It used to be that the refs were all for the Lakers; now they are all for the Heat; Never for the Celtics cause we are a bland team. Maybe we should transfer the to WNBA; maybe the refs there will give us a break.I mean, if thats the way you think the league has it against us; why bother to play? Gimme a break! We got another 20 years to build the next championship team: we get started this Summer. Lets go and get some attacking legs and we will get the ref's calls.

Wade basically throws the biggest tantrum in the NBA, as well as Spoelstra screaming about it. LeBron screaming "this is BULLSH*T" after a call. None of those warrant a technical apparently.

Rick Carlisle trying to defend his best player gets a tech. This is a joke.  >:(
