Now THIS is where Perkins could've become valuable in a trade

Not really, the Grizz aren't hurting for bigs.

Not sure I completely agree - I think having Perkins as a backup center would be absolutely tremendous for Memphis, they don't really have much behind Gasol at the center spot. On the other hand, they've got Tony Allen, Sam Young and Rudy Gay on the wing (and I guess Vasquez too). Mayo might be valuable as the offensive spark on that team, but it's easier to find a shooting guard in the NBA than a defensive center. I'm not sure they would do a Perkins and Bradley for Mayo deal, but it certainly would be intriguing.
2023 Historical Draft: Toronto Raptors

Point Guard: Anfernee Hardaway, Fat Lever, Terrell Brandon
Shooting Guard: Paul Westphal, Paul Pressey
Small Forward: Marques Johnson, Danny Granger
Power Forward: Jermaine O'Neal, Bobby Jones, Kiki Vandeweghe
Center: Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka

Perkins would've demanded between 9-10 million on the open market. Why would the Grizz pay that to a backup?

Fair point, didn't think about salary.

I don't know OJ Mayo.  And I trust in Doc's ability to get through to players as much as any coach out there.

But OJ Mayo seems like one complex individual.  I can't pinpoint what it is exactly that makes me think that about him.  But I worry that his psyche is impenetrable.

I'd be real hesitant to bring him in alongside the character's we already have in this locker room.
The Guy has arrived

I would love to have him but I think he would cost too much money.
