Note **CBA - assumed similar rules.

Memphis needs to take care of their own house, Center Marc Gasol & PF Zach 'Zebo' Randolph are FA's. After signing Gasol (26 yrs old) this team will either go right to the cap to retain Zebo or look for a replacement. Keep in mind this guy is a headcase and on the wrong side of 30. With that in mind Glen Davis could be a good fit there, he can score and help their defense. He isn't Zebo but he is also younger, cheaper and has a decent track record as 6th man and 2009 as KG's replacement.

A sign & Trade would likely be a great fit since Mayo will pull in 5.6M (very close to MLE money) which probably isn't far off of BBD's market value. (Memphis of course is very willing to deal Mayo, see Feb trade deadline)

Why do the C's want another undersized SG? Well he can score, like a star. In 3 years he has shot 44/38/83 (rounded up) from 2pt/3pt/FT. He can shoot yes but he can take it to the hole too. I think he'd be an ideal scoring threat of the bench to spell Ray Allen, plus he's under team control for 2 more seasons. He also averages over 3 RB's, 2 assists and a steal a game with a 16 ppg socring average in 3 years. Think Jamal Crawford but 8 years younger.

Lineups with Rondo at PG, OJ at SG and Jeff Green at the 3 would give the C's a real running/scoring lineup. OJ would fit much better in the role of a top scoring option off the bench than Green who clearly wants to play within the team more so than take over. OJ maybe be a knucklehead but I have faith in Doc & the vets to keep players in line and help him reach his potential. This could be a useful move for both teams.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Two things:

1) Who are we proposing to trade for a guy that memphis would not trade at the deadline?

2) Zbo, Gay, Conley Jr are all signed to extensions. Gasol is the only one left.

I got ya, IP. That being said, Mayo's trade value has gone way up since then.

I actually like OJ and think he would be [dang] good of our bench if their willing to take Davis. What we really need to get however is a defensive center

1) Well BigBaby would have been the bait but that is mute b/c of

2) Zach Randolph got 4 years and 66M: oh.

True OJ played better after Feb, I doubt everything that made Memphis want to make that trade before totally evaporated with his play. But I have to admit with Zebo in place for 4 more years the need BBD would have filled in this trade scenario is no longer applicable.

My bad for not doing better research before posting.

dont see memphis doing it, but if so i think oj would be good fit of the bench. Memphis has 3 capable sg so wouldnt be suprised if either mayo or gay get traded this offseason

OJ would be a good fit for the celtics IMO...we need to start thinking to build like dallas, where we have a deep 9man rotation that can bring scoring off the bench...as well as for the future..

OJ may would be a solid backup, and a lineup of Rondo, OJ, green would be VERY athletic driving lineup...and, OJ could bridge to the future when RA eventually retires or takes a bench role...

but, how do we make it happen? 3 way trade maybe?

I see Memphis staying put this offseason. What they lacked against OKC in the playoffs was a big time scorer who can create his own shot to lead them in the clutch, and they will have that with Gay coming back. They have everything in place for a great season next year and for the next 3-4 years. There is no reason for them to break things up for a fat, self centered, short armed power forward who wants more money and more shots that he deserves.

Aside from trading Rondo I think the only way to get Mayo would be to throw Ray in there.

I don't know if i'd do it, but i'd strongly consider Ray for Mayo/Darrell Arthur. I think Mayo would blow up next to Rondo, he is athletic, can shoot, and would be a great defensive player here. Then Arthur gives us the athletic backup 4 we need, and i think he is good enough to be a starter when KG retires. Would suck to lose Ray, but we'd get some nice talent back.

The Grizz are a very good team, but they lack a consistantly great 3 point shooter. They may not want to give up Arthur ontop of Mayo, but a lineup of Conley/Ray/Gay/Z-Bo/Gasol is scary IMO.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I don't know if he is still attainable, but he's definitely a guy I've wanted for a while. He's super talented and still young he just needs coaching. I don't think he can be as good as a prime Ray Allen, but I think he can get to a similar level to him right now and the last few seasons.

Edit: OJ can get to Ray's level as of right now, but clutchness not included. Ray's a special type of clutch probably the most reliable end of game shooter I've ever seen play.

Love the idea of landing Mayo ( I made him my 6th man on 2k11 )

Either way, Memphis is kidding themselves if they think they will repeat their WCSF appearance as an 8th seed. Even though their team is perfectly built to compete, luck was on their side. Next season they'll be nothing more than a 1st round exit.

I think a trade of OJ Mayo and Leon Powe(1.2mil) for
BBD(4.2mil) and Avery Bradley makes trade sense.

They get a big off the bench behind Zbo, another guard, and maybe we throw in a 2nd round pick or something.
We get a 6'4 SG that can eventually replace Ray. Plus Powe can produce same #s as Davis when healthy.
Can't stop, Rondo!

Why would memphis trade Mayo for Glen Davis, especially considering Davis is an unrestricted FA?

And that they have cap space.

Big_Matt34: if Memphis was down with that deal, I'd totally trade Ray for Mayo/Arthur. I think we'd have to sweeten the deal a bit though (maybe that Cavs 2012 2nd for Semih/Luke?)

Rondo/Mayo/Paul/KG/Center-to-be-named with West, Green and Arthur being our  main guys off the bench would be a nice foundation to a rotation going deep into the playoffs.
