Why would the Nets and Thunder want to downgrade their point guard position?

It certainly wouldn't make any sense for the Nets.  I don't even know which trade we are talking about anymore.  The initial one, where all the good, young point guards just do a big switch around.  Or, the one where the salaries actually match and we give up Rondo and KG for Johan Petro.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

The Nets would probably have greater confidence in resigning Westbrook than retaining Williams.  In recent history, it's been much easier for the home team to retain a young star on his 1st max deal than his 2nd.  Westbrook will value money and franchise player status more than Williams, who will want what he views as the best blend between compensation and contention prospects.

OKC wouldn't value Rondo over Williams though (rightly or wrongly).  They'd want Williams scoring ability.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

If the Nets are going to trade Williams for Westbrook, what do the Thunder need Boston?

Just take Williams (a better passer then Westbrook and a better scorer then Rondo) and put him next to Durrant.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
OKC would be nasty with Deron W.

They'd also be nasty with Rondo.

D Will's scoring is what appeals to me in this.
His ability to shoot the 3 ball and attract dwight howard later on.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

This is not NBA 2K11. Trade cannot work. Both BOS/OKC are over the cap. Incoming salaries are greater than 125% plus $100,000 of their outgoing salaries. NJ makes a mid season blockbuster deal and then trades their elite PG? That's no way to do businesss.

spoken like someone who's never played NBA 2k11.

Kiss my toe and call me Lucy if you think I'm gonna keep looking in threads talking about trading KG! Stop saying KG in these threads... I refuse to let them get rid of KG, unless he has to retire got dangit! I have come to love KG... I wish he was younger!
KG should be long gone before Rondo
too bad noone would trade anything of value for him at this point

I would love to see Deron Williams on the C's but I think we have a better chance of getting Chris Paul (and our chance of that is very small but I dream).

I also don't believe that Rondo on OKC is an upgrade for them over Westbrook.  Now instead of Durant being double teamed all the time, he will be triple teamed.  Westbrook has his issues but at least you have to cover him.  Take him away and add Rondo and there just isn't enough offense.  Rondo is a good passer but he wouldn't get assists on that team.

I just dont understand this at all... We already have an all star caliber point guard, locked up with a bargain contract for the nexy what, 4 more years? Lets worry about fixing the other needs this teams has to take care of.
