Sign and trade Green?
Do we really think so little of Jeff Green?  I too like Young, but I think Green could be better eventually.

Why is that thinking little of Green if I think you could sign and trade him for Young?

I just think Young might be a better fit, a better PF.  A better rebounder.
Not sure what your confusion is.  I think Green is/will be better but you don't think so, so it means you don't think Green is as good...

I think these are two very similar players.

Neither can shoot well from the outside.

Both can slide between PF and SF.

Differences

Young shoots a higher % and rebounds better.  He plays inside more.

And as for future improvement, Young is 22, Green is 24.  Who says who has more room to improve.

Green is a much better outside shooter. Green shoots 40% from midrange and Young shoots 35% on a lot more attempts too, according to statscube. Green also has a solid 3 point shot (44% (!) from the corners, but only 25% above... stick to the corners and we're good, Jeff) and Young doesn't have that kind of range.

no way philly lets him go

Yep.

Quote
I would put the likelihood that Young returns to the Sixers at 92 percent. (Let's not get carried away with that number, it's an educated guess from having conversations about the situation -- and it's fun to put a number on the accumulated knowledge of these conversations.) There is no way for me to overstate the quality of the relationship between Collins and Young. Collins considers Young one of the most impressive guys (character, listening ability, responsiveness, game, personality) he's coached. And Young respects Collins and enjoys playing for him. I'd go so far as to say Young believes in what Collins can do with this franchise and, more specifically, what Collins can do for Young's game. Young wants to return to the Sixers. And the franchise, by all accounts, plans on matching any reasonable offer sheet. No one knows what's going to happen with the next CBA, and how that will change things, but if another team signs Young to a fair offer sheet, the Sixers will match. The only reason Young wouldn't return is if a team signs Young to an insanely above-market-value offer sheet. The Sixers, within a broad range of contract offers, plan to bring back Thaddeus Young.

No sense in Green and Young.  Might as well hang on to Jeff.

When it's all said and done both contracts should match up closely in terms of dollars. Strategically it might make sense to offer Davis and this years #1 (may not even be enough) or throw the MLE at Young and let the Sixers match or possibly overpay.

One caveat about Davis is that he can play with his back to the basket. Young can too, but he hasn't developed that discipline yet. For all his shortcomings Davis has been crunch time player and is skilled at taking charges. Collins may consider sprinkling a few veterans into the rotation if he plans on making it out of the first round.

Green and Young are cast in the same mold, but Memphis proved you can't have too many athletic defenders with size. Still, I think the MLE will be used to procure a 5 or SG, and much of it will depend on whether they can plug either of those holes off a major trade, which may include BB, or Kristic and those #1's.

I'd do that all day.

Green might be slightly more talented, but Young is a 100x better fit.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Thaddeus Young is a much better defender as an undersized PF than Jeff Green is. He, Young, is actually good enough defensively to be a starter there in the long term if he wishes.

Thaddeus it the more physical player, tougher, more comfortable banging against bigger guys in the post. Doesn't quit like Green frequently does when matched against bigger guys.

Jeff Green, on the other hand, is a much better offensive player. A better shot-creator.

As small forwards, I think the same is true again but the differences are smaller. Green is still the better offensive player but by less of a margin and Young is still the better defensive player but by less of a margin.

Unless Danny plans on trading one of the Big Three, it makes little sense to blow the MLE on Young.  Even at a year older, the Big Three will stay play 30+ mpg.  There's no reason why Delonte and Green can't handle all those backup minutes.

We have a much, much bigger need at the 5 spot.

I think with pierce and green we are pretty solid at the 3 but if we added someone else why not Marquis Daniels? If not MQ I'd just keep Sasha around and let him have an off season to learn our stuff.

Then again, I wouldn't sign him. His contract wouldn't be too small. Also, why do all these teams insist on playing these 6'8", 6'9" guys at power foward, they are SMALL FOWARDS. Unless you are A Charles Barkley and very very good, you generally can't play power foward in the NBA unless your 6'10" or shorter but with very long arms.

I disagree.  I like Thadeus' game, but I don't think he is any more well suited to guarding power forwards in the post than Jeff Green.
