But that's my point--if Wafer was good enough, why didn't he play?

From my distant perspective, he didn't play because if he was going to, he was going to take mins from Delonte, and it's clear from the limited time we saw of Delonte this season that he is just a fundamentally more sound player than Wafer.  Especially with the playoffs fast approaching Doc wanted a more solid, dependable guy.

That being said, to me Wafer has more upside if he stays healthy, can provide more scoring punch and really showed some quick hands on D at points.  If we keep Rondo/Ray, I would be all for re-signing our entire backcourt including Arroyo if we can get them cheap enough.  Delonte/Wafer as Ray's backup, Delonte/Arroyo as Rondo's backup, and if Doc's plan is to reduce mins for the Big 3 once again there will be plenty of mins there for Wafer to prove himself throughout the season.

Oh yeah and Bradley, who can continue to sit on the bench because Doc is too reluctant to give him mins.

Von Wafer was a good third string shooting guard. I would be happy to bring him back.

I would be more partial to bringing in someone with above average size, athleticism and defensive ability instead of Von Wafer's scoring ... someone like Rodney Carney.

He earned it, biggest turnaround in attitude I've seen in memory from a player.  He's affordable and 3rd string sg who adds good offense, takes it to the whole and worked on defense (after that rocky part).  I think it'll depend on bradley/west more than wafer's ability though.  If West is coming back (and he was cheap) and bradley shows signs of having his head out of the sand than there aren't any minutes for wafer.  Both are combo guards in pg bodies.

I think they can co-exist. Delonte can jump shoot and I think he's suited to play with the Big Three where it's all about getting to your spots.

Avery may play like a SG, he couldn't do it consistently. He's too small. He will be Derrick Rose/ Russell Westbrook-esque who collapses the defense for the kick out but can play defense and in a very nurturing environment. He'll turn out alright.

I digress.

Von can co-exist extremely well with the two and the team. In fact, I've always been saying how he will be the perfect weapon for Rajon Rondo, alongside Jeff Green. Doc needs to draw up plays for these guys.

i would love to have wafer back - we need his kind of athleticism - probablem is Doc leans heavily to old guys that have proven themselves in the trenches.  Doc needs to change - he has always been this way and only discovered talent on the bench when he was forced to play someone due to injury.

I like doc alot but our senior citizen basketball team had nothing left.  They couldn't out hustle any of the younger more athletic teams.

wafer was doing really well when west went down, then wafer went down and we rarely saw him again.

We need to retool and rethink our team.  Bradley will do well and he needs to be given a lot of developmental minutes.  If we bring back an undersized power forward it better be Leon Powe and not Baby.  Wafer needs to be there.  Jeff Green needs to start and Allen needs to come off the bench.  Then we need some athletic bigs that can board.  Our senior citizen bigs can't give us a consistent effort out there.  They might play bib in one game and then disappear for the next three.  Krystic is a nice piece.  I like a healthy JO as well.

Not sure if he'd see a lot of time in the playoffs, but if he could just help out depth-wise, spread the floor, and play solid defense for 10 minutes a game in the regular season that would be great.  He also knows our system and everything so that's one more guy to help integrate new guys and one less guy to teach the system to.

Totally agree. He's a veteran minimum, but to his credit Von bought into the system. He really started shooting the 3 less in favor of taking it hard to the hole, and some of his drives were heady plays although he had problems finishing them. After the injury he never could crack the rotation, and that missed dunk really did him in.

Yeah, I would be happy to bring him in as a deep bench guy, if only because he already knows the system (well, at least for the most part).  It is such a crap shoot with bringing these guys in, that I would certainly prefer giving him another chance than someone else.

However, I hope they will also bring someone better in as the primary backup SG.  It could be West, if they get another PG, or they could go after someone else, but I just don't like the idea of Green and Wafer as the two primary backups.
