KG is not even close to the level that Shaq, JO, or Sheed are/were.
He is still at his age a top PF in the game and is a dominant defender. Not to mention his great rebounding, and at the very least above average offensive game (lethal mid range).
KG from what I've read and heard of him is not the type of guy that is going to come into camp or come into a season out of shape (I.E. Shaq, JO, Sheed) and with his body type I just don't really see this happening.
If he wanted to I bet he could play another 5 years in the league and his 5th year would probably be better and less injury free than Shaq right now. I don't think he will play tht long but at least 2 more years and I'm thinking closer to 3 or 4 more.
at 34-35 he was still voted second in DPOY and was 1st team all defense. He is bar none the best defensive PF in the game. Now those skills might decline a bit but I highly doubt he goes from this year to being a liability on defense in two years. Most of these guys as they get older, IMO the main problem is their defense, and footwork. KG is not a shotblocking guy so although he relies somewhat on athelticism on D I think the majority is positioning, mental, experience with him.
If KG can maintain at least being a good to average defender for a few years (again I don't see how he can just drop to nothing all of a sudden) he would be playing for a while at least as pick and pop type option.
I'm trying to understand why people think he is going to retire?
He just doesn't feel like playing anymore?
He isn't good enough?
He said this past season could be his last?
When I actually think about who we are talking about KG is the last person that falls into this category.
