Yeah he gave a long "poor me" interview with Mike & Mike this morning. Basically he's upset that he wasn't as well treated as Magic by the Lakers.
A whole lot of ego going on there, between him and ownership in all likelyhood.
To use the word Kareem used about a dozen times this morning, the statue thing is completely ridiculous.
I haven't seen the word "ridiculous" used so many times in one interview.
The reality is that Kareem, while being much brighter than most of his peers, (infinitely brighter than the phony narcissist the lakers put a statue up for already) has never had good communication skills. If he did, he'd be coaching somewhere. It's good to see him looking fit though after his illness.
If you play for multiple teams, don't expect any team to love you that much. Later you'll be seen as a mercenary. And if your tenure with one of those teams overlaps with their greatest player ever and arguably the second best player of all time, then dont double down on them loving you.
Take note Shaq, Lebron, and maybe Dwight.
I think it's more Kareem's aloofness than anything else. He had a very long career in LA. He never connected with fans....And definitely not the press. He just won a lot and produced a whole lot.
