Because he didn't get a statue like Bill Russell.

Since Magic has a statue, he probably deserves one too.  But this comes off as kind of whiney if you ask me.

"If somebody would have told you when he was playing with the Knicks that Nate Robinson was going to change a big time game and he was going to do it mostly because of his defense, somebody would have got slapped."  Mark Jackson

Yeah he gave a long "poor me" interview with Mike & Mike this morning. Basically he's upset that he wasn't as well treated as Magic by the Lakers.

A whole lot of ego going on there, between him and ownership in all likelyhood.

That's what I was thinking. Hey, maybe instead they could do a mural of him. Paint 4 Lakers and 5 opponents on one end of the court and Kareem at the other end, because it was one of those possessions where he decided not to run up the court and play defense.

If you play for multiple teams, don't expect any team to love you that much. Later you'll be seen as a mercenary. And if your tenure with one of those teams overlaps with their greatest player ever and arguably the second best player of all time, then dont double down on them loving you.

Take note Shaq, Lebron, and maybe Dwight.

To use the word Kareem used about a dozen times this morning, the statue thing is completely ridiculous.

I haven't seen the word "ridiculous" used so many times in one interview.

The reality is that Kareem, while being much brighter than most of his peers, (infinitely brighter than the phony narcissist the lakers put a statue up for already) has never had good communication skills.  If he did, he'd be coaching somewhere.  It's good to see him looking fit though after his illness.

I think it's more Kareem's aloofness than anything else.  He had a very long career in LA.  He never connected with fans....And definitely not the press.  He just won a lot and produced a whole lot.

Kareem, it took the city of Boston 42 years after Russell retired for him to get his statue. By my calculations if the city of LA and the Lakers treat you as well as Russell has been treated here regarding getting a statue, you can expect one in the year 2031.

Kareem was a legend of the game and played with the lakers for more than a decade...he really does deserve a lot of recognition...
i don't know that he needed to talk about the lack of a statue though...it makes him look bad but he doesn't deserve to be mocked...he was not a mercenary like shaq and some others are nowadays...i mean he did play for the lakers for a very long time....someday he will have a statue i imagine

Bingo! Magic was truly the face of the franchise as he had a great personality to go along with his game. Hence, Magic got his statue before Kareem. Jabbar will eventually get one, but Magic spent his entire career with the Lakers, coached them for part of a season, and was a minority owner for many years there after.

We all think we know more than we really do....

He isn't the friendliest of people. He's a different breed of cat and rubbed a lot of people the wrong way when he coached the USBL team here.

It didn't seem right yesterday when i heard Kareem basically whine about the statue situation...thats why i waited 24hrs.to make sure that we had the full story. After listening today at Mike Greenberg there is much more to the story.Kareem had many other issues going on with the Lakers, from things happening on the team plane rides to cutting his pay ck as a big man coach.Yesterday just seemed out of character for Kareem to be that upset over...the nonexistence of a statue in his honor is just the straw that broke the camel's back.

All of his other gripes are basically him wanting special treatment from the Lakers, same thing.
