They moved Perkins on Dirk and he got abused.

As he should.  There aren't many (or really, any) traditional centers in the NBA today who can guard Dirk, especially when he's hot.

I agree with this point; great offensive players don't get stopped very often, that's why they are great.  Now having said that, why do people believe Perk wouldn't have been able to stop D-Wade or LBJ from driving the lane against us?

So this supposedly 50-60% Perkins would have made all the difference in the world for the 2010-11 Celtics?  Please....

OKC is in the WCF because of a couple of guys named Kevin (not Kendrick) and Russell.

not to mention that OKC played a # 8 seed without their best or 2nd best player(gay) and the c's played the most athletic team in the league with 2 of the top 5 players and 3 of the top 30 with a one armed Rondo.

You couldn't be more right.  The Celtics would still be fishing right about now even if they didn't make the trade. Rondo's injury would have sealed the deal anyway....
We all think we know more than we really do....

Chandler didn't abuse anyone last night...let alone abuse Perkins.

Chandler: 3 points, 8 rebounds, 1-2 FTs, 0 assists, 0 steal.

Perkins: 7 points, 5 rebounds, 1-2 FTs, 2 assists, 1 steal.

Chandler only took 2 shots... it's not like he was held back. Everyone on this Mavs team see's the picture. They know when it's time to get shots, they know when it's time to feed Dirk or Jet.

Chandler 8 rebounds in 24 minutes

Perkins 5 rebounds in 29 minutes.

Perk got owned by Dirk a few times and Tyson didn't get owned by anybody.

IMO, Perk is a poor-man's Ben Wallace, including his new contract. Ben was a beast in Detroit, decided to go to Chicago for big money and did nothing good before being traded to Cavs and now he's playing for vet-min I think. I think the same thing will(is) happen with Perk.
Bottom line, he should have signed the Contract with us, he would play like a 4-5 mil/year guy and everyone would be happy, insted now he HAS to show up or right after next all-star break he might find himself playing for a .300 team via trade.

Perk has not looked good in these playoffs. The team hasn't been performing well when he has been on the court on offense or defense. I hope for his sake that he is all right with some rest after the playoffs are over. Those knee injuries can derail a career and he looks to be 50% of what he was last season. We also don't want the reputation of trading over damaged goods.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
It is sad because you can tell it's frustrating for him when he misses rotations or Marion or Dirk/Barea blow by him on the pick and roll.

Seeing him like this makes me realize that making the trade was a better move for us for this post season.
JO has been way better than Perk in the off season and he was playing with a broken wrist for a whole series.

He just wouldn't have been right.

What makes me laugh is people saying we would've beaten the Heat with him in the middle 'punishing' Lebron and Wade.
The guy can barely get off 2 feet right now and wasn't stopping two of the greatest athletes in the world.

If OKC gets through do the same people think that Perk will be stopping Rose on his way to the hole?
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

we would've lost to the Heat if we had Perk. I said it before and i'll say it again, IF we had a healthy Shaq (impossible now), we would've won it all. IMO, that unit that started in the year looked unbeatable in a 7-game series. Subtract an injured and not-playing Perk and cold Nate and add in a healthy JO, Jeff Green and a non-suspended D-West, and that's your 2011 champs.

of course, we then lose Shaq, play an injured Delonte, get Rondo's arm broken and have BBD stinking up the whole place, then we naturally get a 2nd round exit. It was "close" though. I assure you the Heat wouldn't have gotten by us if Wade had a broken arm.

Perk is an average athlete at best even when healthy.  Of course he is going to be less than that when something is wrong with his legs.  We saw that firsthand the year he had plantar fascitis.  Perk is atill the backbone of a defense and his athleticm should be greatly improved next year.

With Perk or with Green, we weren't going to win a title this year with all the other injuries that happened.

Perk isn't going to look very good until next year in his defense.  However that is a big contract to give a guy who plays very good 1 on 1 low post defense, blocks shots well, sets picks good and itimidates.  His offense will never look as good as it did with the celtics.  OKC doesn't consider him part of their offense, we at least game him the ball on the post from time to time and the team passed to most open guy which many times was perk.
wish him well
thought the trade was great when it first happened and still think it is great

Chandler did absolutely nothing to Dirk and Dirk was torching everybody.  Perk was a big reason they won Game 7 by shutting Randolph down.

This is a thread stemming from nothing

It's just amazing to read this stuff.  You guys are constructing a world where Danny Ainge can never be wrong, no matter how bizarre his antics are.  There's no question that the Celtics imploded after The Trade, while the Thunder did a lot better.  But many of you would rather believe that we 'never had a chance' against the wondrous Heat, even though for much of this last season WE looked like the team to beat for the championship.

If you wanted to blame someone on the Thunder for their difficulties containing the front duos of the Grizzlies and the Mavericks, it would make a lot more sense to blame Ibaka.  It's Ibaka who has been unable to play effective defense on two of the most powerful and effective power forwards in the league.  But then again, no one can play defense against those guys when the referees won't LET anyone.

I thought that there was going to be accountability for Danny if we didn't win a championship, after The Trade, at least from the fans.  But many of you have simply moved the goal posts.  You are now acting like it was never really realistic to think that we could win a championship.
Too old.  Not athletic.  Wow.  Did all that happen overnight?   Well, yes, it basically did.

Trading off Perkins hurt us on a lot of levels.  Even at half speed, Perkins anchors a defense.  As Doc FINALLY pointed out, it left us with a team that had basically been preset to preseason, as far as knowing each other was concerned.  What he chose not to point out was that it clearly torpedoed our famous 'ubuntu'.   And it killed our seeding.

No, Perkins isn't a great center.  And now he's a hurting not-great-center.  But he DOES control the middle on defense, and he does set screens on offense, and a lot of centers DON'T EVEN DO THAT MUCH.

And if you want to blame Perkins for Nowitski's breakout, never mind that N has been torching everyone, why not blame Chandler for Durant's 40 points?   When people want soooo badly to defend Danny, they have to clutch at straws.  Perkins elevated the Thunder.  Losing him wrecked us.  Not because he's a great player, but because he was necessary to us.

People continue to say 'if Shaq had been healthy'.  Sure.  A healthy Shaq was clearly better than Perkins.  He made our offense literally unstoppable.  When he was healthy, we were pretty much guaranteed a healthy lead in the first quarter against anyone.  But he wasn't healthy.  He was nowhere near it towards the end, and anyone who believed Danny's hype otherwise was being willfully delusional.  Trading Perkins left us with no starting center.  JO rose to the occasion.  That alone was a miracle.  Having him coming off the bench after Perk and playing like that would have been brilliant.

But what is stunning is the way everyone has gone fatalistic.  Rather than blame the obvious cause for our demise from championship frontrunners to championship onlookers, many of you choose to search desperately for other reasons.  As far as I can see, most people have been so deeply conditioned to worship authority that this is now second nature to them.  They will not question even the most obvious lies, from authority figures that are well known to lie freely (as when Danny and Doc assured us endlessly that KG was on the point of return, two years ago).

So it is with life in bizarro world.  I doubt if the Thunder will get past the Mavs.  Nowitski scoring at a 50ppg clip is just too high a mountain to climb, probably for any team other than the Heat.  But even if they do, some folks have already said that Perkins will deserve no part in the credit for such an achievement!!

I actually think it was a bad trade tactically for both teams. The main reason it helped OKC is because it settled their rotation. Something their coach was always able to do, he just didn't do it. Perk was more of an asset in our system, where he knew it cold, and where his D in the middle made more of an impact. I still don't think we beat the Heat if you undo the trade, and I don't think he's adding much to OKC. Had OKC run into LAL he might have been an important factor, but they didn't. The Mavs are unconventional because of Dirk and that hurts Perk.

So I think for this season (which I value more than future seasons) it was a bad trade. Yet I also agree with the premise of this thread that Perk is not all right and not that much of a factor for OKC. You are constructing a false dichotomy. It's not either-or, it can be both or neither, and shades of gray.

Well, whatever's up with Perk I expect him to be even better for OKC next year - just like I expect Jeff and Nenad to pay off for us.

Perk being nearly a year removed from his surgery, and Jeff and Nenad experiencing a full training camp for us will benefit the three of them.

I loved Perk in Green - and I'm happy for him in OKC. He does in fact bring a LOT to the table even with his deficiencies.

No - he's not very mobile - never has been. But he IS a very capable post defender - by size and experience alone. No he's not offensively gifted - but he does clean up around the basket.

As I watched the DAL game, Dirk was in fact torching everyone...he's been doing that the entire playoffs. I cannot blame that on Perk.

I agree with those who say that he is not himself, but I expect him to be back to normal next season.

But anyway I wish Perk the best in OKC - just not against us. And I'm looking forward to Jeff and Nenad in Green, too.

Well why didn't Kristic settle their rotation?  Kristic is an average center.
