sign and trade davis to pistons

Since glen davis wants to be a starter and pistons were previously interested in glen davis I see the pistons as a good trade partner. Since detroit is in rebuild mode they will take expiring contracts. How bout big baby and JO for rip hamilton and ben wallace plus we stay with our MLE

The problem is Hamilton's contract; he's owed $12.5 million next year, and at least $9 million the year after.  That's a pretty bad contract, especially since the team seemingly wants cap space in 2012.

Yeah, I agree, Hamilton's contract is a no-go.  He also does not bring the young legs this team will likely be looking for, particularly if they are going to be breaking the bank. 

If Detroit really were still interested in Davis (which I am skeptical about) I would be much more interested in someone like Gordon (who I think is underrated right now, and will thrive playing next to a real PG again), or maybe Maxiell (basically what a lot of us want Davis to be).

Both of them would be on the books in 2012, but they are at least guys who I could see being decent pieces to have on the team going forward, and guys who could play well with Rondo.

yeah that's true we can also go after maxiell he expires in 2012 and probly keep JO and his contract we could use for another trade or see if he wants to play one more year.

A lot of people have the Pistons taking Tristan Thompson in the draft.  If that's the case, I don't think they'd be interested in Davis.  They have young guys in Monroe and Daye there already who need minutes, I don't think you'll see them focusing on bigs in free agency.

Realistically any trade where we get something for Glen Davis is a good one. Even if we just get a conditional second and a trade exception.

He's an unrestricted free agent so he can leave for nothing.

I'll accept any flavor of peanuts too (honey roasted would be preferable though). 

If I wanted to watch a bench player take tons of shots and play starter minutes then I'd go back and watch the Celtics around 2006. 

I just don't see a S&T working out with Davis though.  We have absolutely no leverage in the deal, and in fact I think we're at a disadvantage b/c we can't guarantee him a starting role. 

Like Evantime said, it'd be amazing if we could get anything for his departure.

I would be OK with this trade, but what contract would have to come back?

The draft takes place before free agency, so this wouldn't be legal.  I suppose there could be a pre-arranged trade, but even then, Charlotte doesn't have the right to get BBD's consent yet, and with the prospect of a long lockout and the uncertainty of the CBA, it's very unlikely that a team would take a gamble like that.

(Not to mention, BBD isn't worth the #9 pick in the draft, even a weak one.)

I can't see Detroit wanting Big Baby. I don't see a fit with Monroe, and the Pistons already have enough guys who are prone to  taking excessive midrange jumpers.

I had seen that news item, but had forgotten about the earlier discussions involving Davis. Nice connection there, Eddie.

It would be something to explore, definitely. Roy rightly points out that a draft night trade would not be possible (and I also doubt Davis could net the #9 pick).

Charlotte could make a first round selection, not sign him, and trade his rights plus a contract for filler (maybe Najera?) to Boston in a sign-and-trade for Davis, I suppose. But they could also just sign Davis to a FA contract that involved some of their MLE, and not have to give up a rookie to do it.
