BOS Sends: Ray Allen (36), Jermaine O'Neal (33) (16.2 M)

Philly Sends: Andre Iguodala (28), Jodie Meeks (24) (14.1 M)

Why for BOS: Boston will get way younger and more athletic, Iguodala could be a potential replacement for Pierce. Jodie Meeks is a great young shooter. (if you think about it Iguodala/Meeks is like TA/Ray except the skills are distributed differently between the players.)
While Iguodala will never give you the shooting that Ray does, he his a HUGE upgrade defensively and in the open court him running with RR could be RIDICULOUS.

BOS Proj. Lineup: Rondo, Iguodala, Pierce, KG, ???. With Green and Delonte coming off the bench.

Why for Philly: Philly can get out of the Iguodala contract, move ahead with core of Holliday, Young, Turner, Brand. They will also get expiring contracts and Playoff experience.

PHI Proj. Lineup:Holiday, Allen, Young, Brand, J.O. with Turner as the 6th man?

I would do this trade for a heartbeat. I love Ray, but he can't create his own shot. Iggy can.

This trade would be grand theft if we somehow pulled it off.

Everyone in Philly seems to think that Iggy isn't a part of the future, and his contract needs to go.

Ray Allen can give you more than what  Jodie Meeks gave them last season, J.O. could be an upgrade at center and if not he's still a nice expiring contract.

If 76ers do this trade they successfully get rid of Iguodala's contract, gain 16 million that will expire by the end of next season, AND those players that are expiring are actually upgrades for your team.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
JO ain't playing in Philly.
So sending him is just a contract and he'll retire.
He only wants to play for a ring, no point in beating his body up for a first round playoff exit.

Would love the trade though.
Grand theft Danny if he could pull it off.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Yeah, isn't JO leaning towards retiring anyways? It could be like what Sheed did for us...but we didn't use that contract well I think.

Iggy would be great plus he's still in his prime. I still don't know why Philly doesn't want to keep him. He may not be worth that contract, but he's solid.

I definitely think that we need to move on from the big 3, because I can't see us landing a solid center which would make up for their bad games. Ray is the most movable piece, because moving Pierce would be a travesty, and KG I think will stay too. He is the heart and soul of our team after all.

I think Iggy is worth his contract, it's just that they don't think he's the piece they want to build around.
The trade is fine regardless of if JO wants to play there or not. In some ways he may be better if he get's traded and just retires/agree's on a buyout.

No, makes rebuilding very difficult and I'm not convinced it improves our title chances enough next season to warrant sacrificing the rebuilding process.

The contracts of Iggy, Pierce and Rondo together would make it very difficult to build a high quality team until Pierce's deal came off the books in 2014.

I do like this trade in a lot of ways and I don't know too much about Jodie Meeks but are starters would have only 1 legitimate 3 point threat. It's frustrating because on every other team the PG is automatically somewhat of a 3 point threat but I think with our starting line we would just have no shooting. I'd like us to pick up some more shooters.

Without looking too deep into it I just feel like the 4 teams in the finals all just have so many 3 point shooters on their team

If I were Danny and the 76ers were on the phone with this deal...
I'd do it in a heartbeat,
I'd then get on the phone to Jeff Foster and offer him the MLE for one year.
I'd then spread rumor that Krstic's injury situation was bad, and then sign him to a cheap deal.
I'd continue to say stuff about maybe Jeff Green'll start, Pierce come off the bench, then sign Jeff Green to the qualifying offer.
I'd let BBD walk.

.... and then I'd wake up from my dream.
Celtics fan for life.

I'd definitely do it. I think Philly would want significantly more though

Without accompanying moves, no.  The back court of Rondo + Iggy just doesn't space the floor enough.  Now, if there was a way to move Rondo for CP3, I'd be in favor, even though it would kill our cap flexibility.

From Philly's end, my guess is that they at least want some talent / draft picks back for Iggy.

The only teams who are going to be interested in Ray are legit contending teams looking to add one more piece.  Trading Iggy for Ray Allen isn't going to help Philly.  It'll give them some salary relief, but Iggy is worth much more than that.
do it

I don't know, I think Philly could be a very interesting option for Ray.  I am not sure it is enough to get Iggy (probably have to throw in a draft pick or something), but it would make some sense for them, depending on other offers out there.  Ray would give them some more veteran leadership, some much needed shooting, and allow them to play Turner, as well as Young more at their more natural SF position.  Plus, Ray would be expiring after next season, and would give them a chance at having a lot of cap space in the summer of 2012, to possibly go after a free agent who compliments their young core a little better than Iggy does.

Obviously, it all comes down to what other offers are out there, but I think Philly would be on the teams that would be interested in Ray, if the C's make him available.
