In one of the oddities I have discovered, the Memphis Grizzlies are going to take the 1985-86 Defensive Player of the Year, but yet a guy that only made 2nd Team All Defense (how that happens is beyond me). He was also on the 2nd Team All NBA and was an All Star (making my team a perfect 12 for 12 in that regard).
G - Alvin Robertson
1985-86 stat line - 17 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 5.5 apg, 3.7 spg on 51.4% from the field and 79.5% from the line (TS% of 56%).
His 301 total steals is 20 higher then the next highest in the history of the league (he also owns #6, #8, and #10 all time so it wasn't a one season aberration).
He won't add a lot of outside range, but his defense was incredible and he was a pretty solid offensive player that year as well. Big enough to guard many SG's and fast enough to guard most PG's. Love the versatility.
