My new fave four teams(besides Chicago) taking coaches and new players into consideration in no particular order:

Portland
Seattle
Philadelphia
Memphis

Edit: I was waffling on the final to teams to name between 6 different teams.

Yes, these teams are REALLY that close in quality. I still predict a tie in at least one category because the voting will be so spread out.

There's an obvious current player comparison to Kemp - what I think is the difference between them from a sheer highlight standpoint is the pure violence Kemp had with each of his dunks. I'm searching for other adjectives to elaborate on a point, but I can't think of anything that better describes it then that: Pure Violence.

I'd guess I watch a Shawn Kemp mix on youtube twice a month. Just absolutely loved everything about him.

Well I'm just going to pull the trigger.  Since I'm traveling (or in a deposition) and will be unavailable most of tomorrow, I'm going to pick my 8th rounder now (per Nick from earlier).

With the first pick in the 8th round the Memphis Grizzlies select the best defensive player of his era and one of the best defensive players in NBA history (and in part inspired by the sidney moncrief selection).  And I realize this might be a bit early, but I really want him on my bench so, it is time to pick him

PF - Bobby Jones

I will be utilizing his first season in the NBA (76-77), when he had a DRTG of 90 (the best I've seen from any player ever).  He played just under 30 minutes a game and averaged 15.1 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 3.2 apg, 2.3 spg, 2.0 bpg, while shooting 57% from the field.

At 6'9" he has plenty of size to guard most opposing PF's and was quick enough to guard the bigger SF's, which should take some mid-game pressure off of Lebron on the defensive end of the floor.

Dr. J on Jones - "He’s a player who’s totally selfless, who runs like a deer, jumps like a gazelle, plays with his head and heart each night, and then walks away from the court as if nothing happened.”
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Did somebody make a bet with Moranis that he could only select Sixers today? ;)

What I liked today:  Most recent trade for Portland (getting Moncrief & Webber), Hal Greer, DJ, Kevin Durant, Alex English, Wes Unseld, Walt Bellamy

What I didn't like: Billy Cunningham, Mitch Ritchmond, Derrick Rose, Glen Rice

What I'm not sure about: Earl Monroe, Paul Silas

I can't agree with this. Mitch Richmond not only was a great player, but the type of player whose excellent in this format. Terrific shooter who doesn't need the ball, underrated defender.

I think there are still guys with more unique skill sets available while someone along the lines of Richmond (including Richmond) set can still be found later on in the draft.

And I had Richmond last year.  I just it still a bit earlier for Richmond.

seems that way, but alas I was all about value with the first two and I just really wanted an all time great and versatile defender on my bench and Bobby Jones was unbelievable in that regard.  He just never quit.  Just a shame the league didn't create the DPOY until the very end of his career or he might have won that thing 5 straight years.  He was just unbelievable in the late 70's.

What's there to be unsure about with the Black Jesus?  The things he did were ridiculous and unbelievably unique.  He's probably the only guy in the draft that you just can't compare to anyone else, and I don't think we'll ever see another player that does the things he did.

He also averaged 42 points as a senior.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

How about McGrady?

For this format, I think the McGrady pick was pretty solid.   You take a single season from him during his Orlando days and have him come off the bench as your backup wing to a HOFer?  Sure, in a heartbeat.  I don't have any qualms with that.

If you're going career, then I think you have to talk about different options.

The 42 point average as a senior doesn't mean a thing in this format.

You need size, not another scorer.  You already have plenty of that.

Yeah, but he's nasty is the point I was trying to make.

I'm not gonna pass up any all-time greats just because I already have a few of the best scorers in history.  I've already got one of the fastest-paced teams ever, guys that can put a ton of points on the board are typically a lot more valuable in those type of systems than the bigs.

Plus I've already got two 7-footers, it's not like I'm really hurting for size at this point.

I think next year we should do a draft with no active players and no HOFers.  Now that would be an interesting collection of teams.
