I think the Tracy McGrady pick at this stage is freakin inspired.
32 points, 6.5 boards, 5.5 assists, 46% shooting, 37% from range, 10 free throw attempts per game, 2 steals and only 3 turnovers, and roughly the same USG rate as Kobe Bryant had this season, just a phenomenal year.
Talk about legacy all you want, and the trash that happened in Houston, but McGrady wasn't IN houston then, and he was only 23.
Really good pick.
I was debating him and Hill, went with Grant and was hoping I could steal Tracy next round.
See, I like Hill more than McGrady, but only just. Hill is a more sure bet that there won't be any chemistry problems, and since there were already 5 or 6 guys on any team that drafted him that would logically have gotten preference over McGrady for PT and touches, you probably want the character guy over the primadonna, which McGrady surely was in Toronto.
But man, in the middle of the 2000's, McGrady was the most lethal scorer I ever seen. Off the dribble, he was more deadly than any stupid Black Mamba. He was longer and taller than anyone who guarded him, and he could even play the point in a snap.
McGrady's biggest knock was and is that he never 'won anything', but his biggest complaint was and is that he didn't have the cast needed to win something.
I guess the rubber meets teh road here, eh?
