I hate to poo poo on the great 11 ringed one so I'll try to be nice, I sort of agree. I think the only way he competes at C is if you look at things the way Roy has described. I have been trying to draft guys that I thought could compete against any eras players but thta just goes to show you how many different ways there are to look at this draft. It makes things fun.

Yeah, it's definitely a balancing test, and I can see why people would want to stay away from 1960s players.  Realistically, even today's role players would dominate physically if transported back in time to the 1960s (with a few exceptions, such as when matched up against Wilt).

Therefore, the only "fair" way I can think to evaluate things is by projecting yesterday's players as if they were born into the world today, with the same relative level of dominance.  However, I also totally understand if another panelist thinks that's way too hypothetical, and just look at players as they were, rather than how they could be.

Yeah Nick my bad, logged on late, and hadn't even decided my pick yet.

I picked Elvin Hayes though, about a minute after my time.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I think your biggest strenght is prime time shaq

I would hope so, he was my number 1 pick haha.

Also, this is kind of off topic but when you talk about comparing era's Daniel Tosh had a really funny joke about Babe Ruth and Barry Bonds.  Saying people shouldnt be hating on bonds and the steroid era guys so much because guys like Ruth never had a pitcher Like CC Sabathia staring him down throwing 90 MPH sliders.  Or for that matter, Babe never had to play against Negro League Players

Yeah, it brings us back to the same type of argument.  I personally think that players like Bonds and Ruth would have been great in any era.  Put them in the year 2085, with the advantages of people of that era, and they'd dominate, as well.  (As a wild aside, people *should* criticize Barry Bonds for cheating, though.  He had the God-given talent to dominate without enhancements.)

That's a very solid pick that I know other folks were looking at this round.  I'll be curious to see which year you choose.

The Los Angeles Lakers select:

Joe Dumars!

A calming presence and proven champion. While no one could ever stop Jordan completely, Joe Dumars could slow him down. He and GP form a defensive duo that would be effective to this day.

Looking to trade out of this round.

Would need an early pick next round and then either another pick or a few swaps.

Just Kidding,

Dallas Selects, Bob Pettit

Great player, great fit, great pick.

His scoring versatility will complement Shaq well, leaving more than enough space for the big man when needed, also helping out Gervin and Baylor.

Gotta say I didn't see that happening though he is a real nice fit for that team.

Really good pick. Defense is obviously a strong suit of this Lakers team.

One of the panelists is absolutely gaga over Dumars, so there's that.
