The more I think about it, the more I think Rondo is a goner... I think Ainge knows what Rondo is, an above average point guard who is regarded as a Top PG because of his situation. I think he is going to be heavily shopped this off season.

When the Big 3, or part of the Big 3 is gone, Rondo is going to become devalued quickly. He would be tougher to trade and you might not want to live with him, his attitude, and his up and down play for the future. Rondo won't be the same guy without those guys to inflate his assist totals and open up the floor for him.

I think Rondo is OVERvalued at this point and Ainge has a real shot to cash in on that and extend the life of this team's viability.

I can really see a Rondo for Conley/Marc Gasol type deal where a small market team wants a star PG and doesn't want to pay a guy who is up for a contract... I am just throwing that out there, but I could also seeing them trying to package him with picks and another player to try to land CP3 or Deron.

I like Rondo, but Ainge is a business man... I think he sees Rondo as his one monster chip, and I think he looks to cash it in.

semantics, but I think Ainge will "listen" to offers for anyone but Pierce - not the same as shopping him around

I can see Danny making a phone call or two, albeit from a disposable cell phone that can't be traced.  There's two All-NBA guys who may be available (Chris Paul and Dwight Howard), and it's hard to see how either would be attainable without Rondo being part of the package.

I disagree. I think they "shop" Rondo (and any other expiring contract they have to offer). I don't think he is going to sell him off for scraps, but I think this goes on behind the scenes and we try to add a franchise player.

Just my theory. Only time will tell...

I think Rondo's value might have dropped after this season. His stock has fallen with me at the very least. Since his rookie season he's jumped leaps and bounds in his development every year, but that didn't happen this season. He came in with more confidence, but he didn't become a better scorer, passer, or shooter. I think he got a lot of credit for his impressive assist totals early, but IMO that was from overpassing and playing with 4 great finishers. Right now I just hope he hasn't peaked and that injuries really were what slowed him down at the end of the season because he's been real unimpressive the last few months. I'm comfortable with him in his role as of now, but I'm scared of a future where he'll have to be more of a scorer.

The better you become, the slower you progress. You surely didn't expect he'll come in and transform himself into Ray Allen over the course of the season?

There's no question in my mind that injuries were what slowed him down at the end of the season.  He was an early MVP candidate when he was racking up assists at a record rate.  The team was winning big, and looking like the best team in basketball.  He was certainly not over passing.  He was simply running the team to perfection.

C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

I can see Rondo being moved for a star player.

I just don't think there are many young stars out there to get.

i can see cp3 attained for rondo and picks

id hate to lose rondo but these seem like trades that can extend this window 2-3 years

That's my favorite one.

Then, hope a player like Williams doesn't want to sign an extension with NJ but would sign one with Boston.

This came up last off-season I think, but what about Gay and Conley Jr. for Rondo? That would seem the most realistic to me after the events of this past season and how well Memphis is doing without an elite PG and Gay.

I subscribe to this, rickyfan3.0... I think Rondo is shopped hard this offseason for all the reasons you mentioned in the OP.

However, I don't think there's  anyway Memphis does that deal. What about:

Rondo, Green, Baby and the Clipper 1st rounder for Chris Paul and Ariza?

If you move Rondo, you will all know hard what his true value is to this team. Similar to what happened with Posey, Perkins, Tony Allen.

Trading Rondo will be the end of the Boston Celtics.
