That won't go anywhere!  I think you give up way too much in the OP.....Giving up all that plus the higher salary for Paul in order to shift from  Rondo to Paul....to me that seems insane.

I love how people are talking about Rondo as if hes already reached his ceiling...

the guys only 24 and is one of the best point guards in the league already...his jumper has improved this year, and he WILL develop a consistent jumper...look at jason kidd. also, he has proven that he has a love for the game and alot of heart.

once he does, hes as much an offensive threat as D-rose(minus the 3point shot).

the key should be to start putting young atheletic peices around Rondo to let him play his game...which is operating on the fast break and driving to the hoop.

develop green more to be a legit 6th man off the bench(he has hte potential) and get an athletic Big who we can bridge to the future...so as the big 3 start retiring, we are halfway there.

honestly, Rondo is a BIG asset in getting players to come to Boston...who doesnt want to play with a point guard who is unselfish and gets you the ball in the right spot?? its this that will make guys like Kevin love, blake griffin, d-howard etc. decide to come here...other players in the league have said as much....remember OJ mayo saying hed love to play with a guy like rondo?

chris paul? well just become Hornets 2.0...building around rondo we can do like the bulls have..Celtics are about Ubuntu and ball movement, not ball hogs

Chris Paul is above Rondo's ceiling.  Rondo will never be the shooter Paul is.  



The rest, they are very similar.  Similar defender, passer and rebounders.  




Put it this way, there is no way I can see a healthy Rondo with the NO team the way it is putting the same scare into the Lakers that Paul did.


Give Paul better players (Pierce and KG), he gets even better.

I don't know how there is honestly a debate between who is better Rajon Rondo or Chris Paul, and a debate between who players would rather play with.

I'll go back to what I said before - I think you could argue health concerns, and I think you could argue he won't come here - but all other arguments are kinda mind boggling.

I'd argue Rondo has greater health concerns then Paul given his back seems to always act up.  Paul got hurt two years ago, but was perfectly healthy this season and the two seasons before the year he got hurt.  He doesn't seem to have any sort of chronic issues like Rondo does with his back.

These trade ideas are getting downright fantasy-like right now. But truthfully I don't think you ever should build around a PG. Wings and Bigs are more dependable as you can see right now.  Let's spend time into getting a decent center and going younger.

TP. I don't get the fascination with CP3. He is good but some people are really overrating him. He has declined this year. Sure, he looked good against the Lakers in the POs, but that's not saying much, so did JJ Barrera. We need a center more than anything and some younger core players. We ain't broke at the PG position anyway, so there is no reason to fix it.

For what the Celtics would have to give up to get Paul, the move makes no sense.  Rondo is an all-star point guard, so is Chris Paul.  To get Paul you would need to move multiple players and picks.  Why waste those players and picks?  The improvement would not be worth the deal.

And I dont agree Paul is that much better than Rondo, Rondo does things better than Paul, defense, passing, toughness.

This idea is just a distraction and would probably make the Celtics much worse.  Its a fantasy that focuses on the wrong aspects of rebuilding.  Why replace the best player you have on the team?  Why not find a Center to help this team?

Chris Paul is a superior player to Rondo in every aspect of the game. If the trade presents itself, you trade Rondo in a heartbeat. You also throw in Green, the Clippers pick, and a future Boston first rounder if need be.

I think this trade probably makes the most sense for both sides:

Celtics Trade:

Rondo - 10 mil
Jeff Green - 6 Mil (qualifying offer... they can extend them if they choose)
Jermaine O Neal - 6 mil Expiring
Shaq - 1.4 Mil Expiring (probably will retire and they don't need to pay him)
Avery Bradley - 1.5 Mil Expiring

for:

Chris Paul - 16.3 Mil (contingent on him signing an extension)
Okafor - 12.5 Mil (signed through 2014.  Considered a bad contract, but would be a valuable piece to a contender.  Gives Celtics a defensive big man they lost in Perk)

Celtics might need to include picks.

Leaves us with

PG - Chris Paul
SG - Ray Allen
SF - Pierce
PF - KG 
C - Okafor

That's good enough for one last run (if there is a season next year).  In the aftermath of the 2011-12 potentially locked out season... KG and Ray will retire... and we will have the following under contract:

Chris Paul - 18 mil?
Pierce - 17 Mil
Okafor - 13 Mil

So in other words... 48 Mil.  With a hard cap set at 52 mil, that gives us another 4 million total to fill our roster.

You're talking about rebuilding exclusively through free agency?  Trying to do the Knicks and Heat thing?  If the Heat get themselves another defensive center on top of current bigs Bosh, J. Anthony and Haslem, as well as better PG than they've got now, then Chris Paul plus our original big 3 is not going to get it done......

If you're going to trade Rondo in order to rebuild, you should trade him for multiple young or reasonably young players and picks, preferably a pick in the 2012 draft.  Plus, if you're looking for a PG with a jump shot, don't give up the great Rondo and all he brings, as well as a bunch of rebuilding tools, to get a slightly better version offensively.  Instead, get a lesser PG but with a better jump shot than Paul, a guy who plays good defense and doesn't turn  it over, but who lets Ray, Paul and KG keep their strong imprint on the team.  Something along the lines of Rondo and Bradley for Teague, Heinrich and a 2012 first rounder.
