If Paul lets it known that he is not going to resign with NO

Rondo, Ray and JO

for

Paul and Okafor.

NO get a smaller salary going forward to rebuild.  The Celtics have to absorb the over-payed Okafor.

Going through his stats, I'm surprised to see Okafor being as healthy as he has: 72 games this season, and 82 three straight years before. It'd take us out of the running for free agency, though we could still acquire max players via trade by using KG or Pierce's contracts.

Pretty nice starting 5 of:

Chris Paul
Delonte West
Paul Pierce
Kevin Garnett
Emeka Okafor

You're not getting top notch free agents with Rondo as your only 'lure'.  Free agents have never come here and they won't just because we have money and Rondo. Unfortunately.

This is, of course, based on players commenting that they'd love to play with Rondo in the past? You don't think people will want to play with a pg that's willing to get them the ball and will do a better job of getting them the ball in the right spot at the right time than any other pg in the league?

With only Rondo no, I don't think the top guys will want to.  You may get the Rudy Gay/Danny Granger types. But that is not going to get it done.

Superstars now want to be with other superstars.  Rondo is not a superstar unfortunately.

That's a great deal for both sides (to the OP). Paul is on another level from Rondo, but that's as  close to fair value you can get.

That's where Green (sign and trade) and the extra 1st come in handy.  Those combined with KG could get the Celtics an offensive star to be the 2nd option going forward.

Rudy Gay. Boom. Championship. I'll start designing the t-shirts.

Everyone has to commend Rondo for his play in the postseason this year, it was legendary with the injury he had.

But realistically, we need a PG that can stretch the floor with Ray Allen. It will help out KG in the post, it would help out offensive rebounding and it would help space the floor.

Chris Paul does everything that Rondo does well, but he also has a jump shot that is to be respected, which is more needed than anything Rondo can bring to the floor.

I think a package of Rondo, Baby S&T/Jeff Green, and picks could get it done. There would be some other parts, but Chris Paul would be the best player in that deal.

KG doesn't go in the post very often and trading Rondo for a worse rebounder won't really help with our rebounding issues, will it?

I think we could get over the .3 rpg average difference between Chris Paul and Rajon Rondo

Memphis would be crazy to let Rudy go before next season.

Or outta money. I don't know if they can afford to bring back Marc, and if you have your choice between the 2 you have to pick Gasol, right? Or at least afford all of those players for such a long stretch of time.

I expect Rudy Gay to be moved, but I don't think it'll be here.

I think they'll match anything short of a MAx offer for Marc, ride one season way over the tax and see how they do before they trade one of ZBO/Marc/Rudy.

We can all wish and hope for Chris Paul but in the end it's not going to happen. I don't see him coming to a team that is on the verge of rebuilding. The way he will look at it is he is better off in New Orleans than here. I'm fine with Rondo, he is not a bad PG and we should forget about CP3 and try to land a solid center and a more reliable bench.

Then acquire a good rebounder. I don't see how they're related.

I love how people are talking about Rondo as if hes already reached his ceiling...

the guys only 24 and is one of the best point guards in the league already...his jumper has improved this year, and he WILL develop a consistent jumper...look at jason kidd. also, he has proven that he has a love for the game and alot of heart.

once he does, hes as much an offensive threat as D-rose(minus the 3point shot).

the key should be to start putting young atheletic peices around Rondo to let him play his game...which is operating on the fast break and driving to the hoop.

develop green more to be a legit 6th man off the bench(he has hte potential) and get an athletic Big who we can bridge to the future...so as the big 3 start retiring, we are halfway there.

honestly, Rondo is a BIG asset in getting players to come to Boston...who doesnt want to play with a point guard who is unselfish and gets you the ball in the right spot?? its this that will make guys like Kevin love, blake griffin, d-howard etc. decide to come here...other players in the league have said as much....remember OJ mayo saying hed love to play with a guy like rondo?

chris paul? well just become Hornets 2.0...building around rondo we can do like the bulls have..Celtics are about Ubuntu and ball movement, not ball hogs
