Tough loss. Let's get Chris Paul. He's our best option present, and our best option in the future. Of course, I'd imagine most of these deals would hinge on his willingness to sign here. Hopefully he understands the job Danny's done for us to be able to compete for another season, and then acquire another superstar after.

If Jeff Green were to accept the qualifying offer, a pretty simple deal would be:

Boston Sends: Rajon Rondo, Jeff Green, Clippers' first round pick, Boston #1
Boston Receives: Chris Paul

That's a pretty attractive offer for New Orleans, though they might need to rid themselves of Trevor Ariza in any kind of deal they'd make. Any of you caps guys out there know if we can trade Rasheed's contract?

Chris Paul needs the ball in his hands all the time. We already have an athletic championship caliber point guard. Why would we trade him for a different young athletic point guard who is oft injured, not playoff tested, and will command almost 20 million a year? Rondo is a steal on the contract we have and his numbers are better than Paul's except for 5 less points a game.

Lets concentrate on other needs rather than downgrade at positions we already have filled.

Our main focus right now should be a Center ... a "true", athletic Center like Dwight Howard, we don't need a PG. And for those who want a new PG, a Center is far more important right now than a PG. I love Rondo and I like Delonte off the bench ... what do we have at Center for the future?!? Nothing.

However, I think the main idea behind grabbing Chris Paul is not only that he would arguably improve the starting five (which is indeed a contested view), but more so make Boston a more attractive destination come 2012, where Dwight Howard is a free agent.

I'm quite certain that Paul is considered a higher profile and building block than Rondo (even though he is older and more injury prone).

Also, not playoff tested? C'mon, PJ10, you're better than that. I think its safe to say that we've seen enough of CP3 in the playoffs to say that he's up to the task.

CP3 is going to the NYK and no other team.  He'll do the same as Melo.  You can come up with all the paper trades that work by the numbers but it ain't happening.

I think we have a better shot at Howard, though I'm almost certain he only leaves ORL for a big market such as NJN or LAL.  This guy wants to be in the spotlight and market himself.  I feel he cares more about that that winning.

I think there's a logical attachment to Rondo. He's an incredible talent, whose an absolute delight to watch. Just attempting to play after what happened to his elbow was heroic, I don't have the vocabulary to properly describe what it was for him to play two more games afterwards.

But we're talking about Chris Paul here - 22 points per game on 52% from the field, 11.5 assists, 6.7 rbg against the Lakers when the second best player on his team is Emeka Okafor.

He's a once in a generation point guard who would help us extend the big three era, and make us a more attractive option in free agency. Argue that he wouldn't come here, argue that his injuries scare you, but please don't argue that he couldn't help this team.

Honestly I'd give up Rondo and the LAC #1 without a guarantee that Paul signs an extension.  I'd give it one more go next year in that situation and see what happened.  I would certainly push hard for Paul to sign an extension before becoming a free agent, but if he elected to move on, then so be it and the C's go into full on rebuilding with the rest of the 2012 free agent class and/or lottery picks going forward (Pierce might retire if the C's don't land anyone of note in 2012, which would make the team awful leading to a high draft pick).

Next year is the last window with this group, you either have to go all in or blow it up this summer.  The status quo just won't work.

  This is, of course, based on players commenting that they'd love to play with Rondo in the past? You don't think people will want to play with a pg that's willing to get them the ball and will do a better job of getting them the ball in the right spot at the right time than any other pg in the league?
