End of the line for one of the All Time Greats.

It was really fun to see Shaq play effectively with this group at the start of the season and tantalizing to think what could have been.  Alas, his big ol' bones had too many miles on them.

A long great career.

I remember being fascinated with Shaq at LSU and watching his early years in Orlando with much interest.

He was the league's elder statesman.  Dating back far enough to have played the final game at the old Garden (the last player left to have played there).

I had to hate him when he was a Laker, but he was always a force.

I wish things ended better hear, but it was a nice novelty to see him in green.

He was a unique player. It will be weird to not have him in the league.

Why is Shaq's career over?

Shaq can come back next season.

Yeah it sucks to see him end his career like that. I was holding hope that he would come back next year but... unlikely.

Slightly off-topic and it's not the end of his career but I feel really bad for JO too who gave it all to come back from his injury, wanted to win a title so badly and didn't get it.

I agree.  And I wouldn't be surprised if he did.  He has a nagging injury, but nothing that won't heal by next season.  He's also under contract.

If they're going to bring everyone back, they might as well hold onto him.  Let him play 5-10 mpg, sit him on back to backs and make darn sure he's ready for 15+ mpg come playoff time.

I believe the idea is that he's basically on the verge of retirement after being injured for most of this season.  Clearly just isn't physically able to play NBA basketball for more than a few games without injuring himself.

yea...I don't see why JO, shaq can't comeback as benchers again.  They could offer alot of experience and help for a new superstar center ..WE need.

Thanks for the memories Shaq. Short, but very memorable run here. Tons of respect, its just too bad it didn't end the way we wanted it to. Also agree that JO would be good as a backup, but we need a starting center who can rebound better and is more of a threat to score... JO has zero lift left, I've seen him get blocked on wide open dunks too many times

Shaq can come back next season.

If he does come back he needs to spend the winter somewhere warm where he won't slip on the ice, and he stays off the court until April so we can get different few months out of him.

Well, we can pray he retires, anyway.

Im not sure his ego lets him go out like this.  He may think he can get in shape and contribute next season

Erm, no, not really. He's had 3 months and the foot hasn't healed. And it gets aggravated every time he plays.

I just don't see it happening.  From the tone of his comments it would be surprising to me.

But I guess I should have preface my comments with a question mark, since it's my strong opinion, not a fact.

Shaq said he is on the "720" day plan. I wouldnt mind having him on the roster next year if we keep the core for 1 more years. hopefully he actually gets in shape.

I would not be surprised to see both these guys back next season.

If you're Shaq why not come back to the Cs again. He was embraced by the city and played well in our system.

Plus, a reasonably healthy Shaq probably means we win this series and are still playing.

unless Shaq needs surgery on his achilles I see no reason for Shaq to play anywhere else next season.

I remember him saying that, too - I would not be surprised if Shamrock comes back next year - but I also wouldn't be surprised if he's done.
