If this series ends the way it looks to be ending, then I think DA should absolutely blow this team up.  Let's face it, if we can't be mia this year, we ain't going to touch them next year. And to be quite honest, I would rather see these guys go to contending teams for their final years than to see them languish here without a real chance.

Of course, that is easy enough to say.  But my question is, what can we reasonably get for the Big 3?  They surely have value, especially to contending teams.  I am thinking that someone like Chi would love to have Ray.  Teams would probably stand in line for PP and KG.  DA has to leverage that somehow.

As crazy as it may sound, I would trade Ray and KG for 1st round picked in the 15th range for the 2012 draft.  Not sure what I would want for PP.

Of course, contending teams don't usually have those picks.  The next idea is to get younger players, but I really don't have any in mind that would work.

So, assuming you are on the blow it up train, does anyone have any concrete ideas?

Paul is probably one of those guys who will never be traded, similar to Tim Duncan, Kobe, or Dirk, if only for sentimental reasons.

After Paul stuck with us through (way) highs and (way) lows for so long, trading him would be absurd. No way he goes.

Ray Bo them, ship them or let them sign with teams that can still win and let them retire as Cs.

I certainly would give someone like PP the option.  But if he would rather go, then I would trade him as well.

And for the record, I understand that their are cap consideratiosn when making trades.  Of course, this would make trades very complicated.

Detroit Pistons - possible salary dump - Rip, B.Gordon, Charlie V
Golden State Warriors - no interest
Houston Rockets - no interest
Indiana Pacers - no interest
LA Clippers - no interest
LA Lakers - Odom? No, Odom? No, I don't think LA would be interested. Maybe. No.

Minnesota T'Wolves - no interest
New Jersey Nets - Travis Outlaw?
New Orleans Hornets - Trevor Ariza and change

The way I see it, when we acquired Green, one thing that was pretty certain is that he was a fairly good third banana. Given that we have Rondo, this means that we really need to add one major piece rather than look for complementary, smaller pieces.

We're not shipping out Paul Pierce, and frankly, I don't think we have to. However, I do think that after Allen and Garnett are off the books next year, we're in a position to make a significant splash, and resign whoever of those two is interested to come back as a complementary player for the MLE. This will likely be Allen, since he looks like he can play until he's 40, has settled in the area, and generally is a good fit in almost any situation.

With all this in mind, whether they admit it or not, the Celtics are putting all their chips on Dwight Howard. He's the highest-profile FA next summer, addresses a position of need, and will make a make for a great core with Rondo, Green, and an aging Paul Pierce.

Sadly, there are a myriad of ways in which this can backfire, but I just can't look at the team and see how they're planning for anything else, short of a total blowup, which will likely just waste Rondo's prime.

Unless you get a major piece back, I think trading Pierce makes the Celtics a substantially less attractive FA destination in 2012.

Yeah, Pierce will be getting on in years but most NBA players are short sighted + Pierce will likely be coming off another 18-20ppg season on a 50+ win team. He'll be regarded as a very valuable teammate to have in the medium term while the squad continues to rebuild around new FA + Rondo.

So I doubt we see any trades that make sense until after the top prospective 2012 FAs are off the market.

None of these are appealing.

Brook Lopez would be a pretty decent backup plan.

Kevin Love and Eric Gordon are other (sort of) high profile free agents that summer. Although it sounds like K-Love is going to sign a large extension before then.

And Gordon would be crazy not to be Griffin's running buddy for the rest of his career.

Memphis Grizzlies -- OJ Mayo and cap filler

This interests me a lot. Memphis's biggest flaw right now is the lack of perimeter shooting in their lineup. They're also good enough to win the whole thing next year with a guy like Ray. Ray's old but I can see him playing at a high level for at least 2-3 more years. And with Mayo we get a promising young guy... I love Ray, but if this trade comes up, we should pull the trigger

Yup ... I'm still not seeing anything that offers a substantial improvement to the Celtics rebuilding process.

Unless there is a trade with Garnett that offers that, hence triggering a more comprehensive effort to retool, I don't see any point in trading Ray Allen this summer.

Keep him and let him play out his contract. Then review the situation.

How much money do you think the Clippers will be willing to pay Eric Gordon?

I am thinking 5 years, $60 million.

Whatever figure it'll take to pry him away ($70+ million) ... I'll be uncomfortable offering Gordon that type of cash.
