I wish we traded Rondo, amnestied Pierce, and let KG go to Miami or retirement or somewhere...we should be having a youth movement
Why the rush to turn into the Charlotte Bobcats, or the Pistons, or the Kings? Look around the NBA, and see how hopeless a "youth movement" is the vast majority of the time. You end up losing a ton of games, the owners end up losing a lot of money, and for what? The hope that your team will someday be good enough to be in the conference finals?
Our team is already as successful as most rebuilding squads will ever be. When you've got a chance at a title, I think the proper step is to maximize your chances and hope things go your way.
People just love to obsess on the Internet over the unproven players, some apprarently more than actually winning games.
For five years, while we've enjoyed one of the better eras in franchise history, this board has been a veritable treasure trove of "Bring back" threads: Big Al No D, Delonte West, who came back and accomplished nothing, and of course, the name who just won't go away, Gerald Green. The affection for that putrid team and the basketball Abbotts and Costellos who made it up defies common sense.
We went the blow it up route once. The franchise put arguably its second worst team in history on the floor as a result, and the only reason we're still not bemoaning that is because Kevin McHale and Sam Presti were selling off HOFers in the summer of 2007 for pennies on the dollar.
I always laugh at the "assets" word. Only half accurate. Ainge was in the right place at the right time at two fire sales; otherwise no way he turns that collection of flotsam and jetsam into a champion.
