Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Marc Gasol was a throw in on that trade, not the headliner.  Similar to how the lakers got Shannon Brown in the Adam Morrison trade.  It worked out really well but is more of a surprise than it was an expectation.  I don't care what Memphis is doing right here, right now, that trade was a disgrace.  Not only for the reason that the lakers gave up nothing at the time but that it was completed weeks before the trade deadline and Memphis never shopped around to see if they could get a better deal.
Most people considered him a throw in but at the time of the trade Chris Wallace did actually mention that Marc Gasol was going to be a really good player.
He also actually mentioned that Jerome Moiso and Kedrick Brown were going to be really good players.
Moiso was a Rick Pitino pick.  And while Kedrick was kept over Joe Johnson, at least he was smart enough to draft Joe Johnson.  And don't forget that trade brought the C's to the East Finals after a looooong playoff drought.

I am not convinced that ABynum is anything more than a very good young center.  He has played alongside Pau Gasol and Kobe Bryant his entire career. He has put up decent numbers, but, there is no way of knowing whether he is a 20/10 guy, or a 15/10 guy, or a 15/7 guy on another team.  His defense is mediocre and he has been fragile.

BTW, Zach Randolph is a bonafide 20/10 guy.  And Chris Bosh is a 20/10 guy in the right context.  Bynum isn't yet.  He may not be as effective as Marc Gasol were he working alongside Randolph in Memphis.

The real  question is where would Memphis be with Rudy Gay?

Maybe we can nab Rudy Gay this summer for cheap? How about the Glen Davis-Nenad Kristic special?
No chance. Gay will be running with Conley and TA. Mayo is the one who will almost certainly be traded. Their starting 5 will be: Conley, TA, Gay, Z-Bo, and Gasol.

That is such a scary starting 5. So much more offense with Gay instead of Young. Their defense is incredible right now too

Alongside Zach Randolph Marc is the better match at center. I think they could use a wing that can create his own shot for end of game situations... oh wait they have that.

I love this Memphis team, as soon as TA started getting serious minutes they became the real deal. Grizzlies are good when they force the ball inside, and i hope that when Rudy comes back they'll continue to play in the paint.

That's exactly how I feel.  He's a very good role player but let's see how he does with HIS team that is built around his skills.  Before Friday's game my friend (a laker fan) texted me and said Bynum might be their most solid player right now.  I told him that's not a good thing for the lakers to which he pretty much agreed.

Without a center for the first 10 games of next season, after Bynam's contribution to the classless Laker meltdown.

Surely he will get hit with a significant suspension.

A lottery team?
or a team that won the Atlantic division winning 47 games with virtually no one else on the team.

wow... if Bynum wasn't playing in the luckiest team in the NBA, he'd probably be going through what Greg Oden is living. But he would have replaced Kwame Brown, not Marc Gasol.

Marc is a better passer, better shooter, better defender. I'd rather have him than Bynum, who is injury prone and a big guy, but his shooting ability is limited and most of his points come off teams doubling on Pau.

Wallace isn't the dumb guy we all thought he is. He's Jerry West best buddy, and a Celtic Hater. He hurt the Celtics as the GM, and he helped the Lakers in the Gasol trade. Of course Marc could end being a more effective player than Pau, but Pau is the reason the fakers are a contender. Wallace is the reason for Laker rings, and he hurt the Grizzlies then.

Now he's showing he has a good eye for players, so I bet he'll try to get something out of Rudy Gay, but he won't send him to the Lakers.

He gave Rudy Gay a max contract.  He is the dumb guy we all thought he is.

When Rudy's the second best player on a Championship contender next season, he'll be even smarter.

Yes, that's how I see it. Congrats for your fifth star! TP
