I've come to terms with "the trade" being a total failure.   Perk's presence seems to be helping the Thunder.  Meanwhile every time I see Jeff Green, I have the remind myself that he's been in the league for 4 years.  He looks like a wide-eyed overwhelmed rookie.  I was completely wrong about that guy.

But putting that aside...  this team still has 4 freakin allstars who have at times this year individually looked brilliant.  Jermaine O'Neal has shown a surprising amount of life and seems to give the Celtics about 50% of what Perk gave them.  Delonte West is a solid basketball player.  Nenad Krstic was the starting center on a playoff team last year.  Jeff Green isn't a TOTAL bum...  Glen Davis can put up numbers.  The guys we aren't even using (Troy Murphy, Pavlovic, Arroyo) have all at least proven themselves to be legitimate NBA players.     On paper, this is an incredible collection of talent.

My pessimism at this point isn't related to the trade.  It's that these guys don't seem capable of executing.  In the first two games I didn't see any fire.  What's going on with this team?  Don't tell me it's the trade.  Does it all boil down to injuries or do these guys need to get broken up?  I'm watching them and I get the impression the lockerroom has been a cold place these days.  There is something going on with this team that we aren't aware of.

For example:  I Read quotes that Rondo lost his passion for the game earlier in the season (BEFORE the Perk trade).  I guess a fat contract will do that to a player.  The article suggested his passion had returned.  Not so sure I buy it.  It might be a problem.  I couldn't help but think about that in game 2 when Pierce was screaming at Rondo.

The All Star tags are deceiving.

Yes Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, and Paul Pierce are technically all-Stars  and they are rightfully hall of famers, but they are playing against 3 real all-stars.

When I say real what I mean is that the Celtics big 3 are way past their primes (mid 30s) while the Heat big 3 are in their mid 20s.

If they were all the same age, I'd argue the Celtics 3 big 3 are more talented, but currently the Heat's athleticism is overwhelming the old and tired legs.

Frankly, the only real all-star we have is Rondo and he's been up and down all season, and injuries haven't helped.
Celtics' turn on switch for the playoffs: the last bastion of hope for battered Celtic fans.

I don't think anything is going on in the lockeroom that is a cause of concern...it could be injuries perhaps. I know Rondo had his back wrapped up even before the start of the first game.

I think that you, like a lot of people, are looking at the trade the wrong way.  This was never about comparing Green to Perk.  It is about comparing Perk to his replacement and Green to what we might have gotten otherwise.

From Green's side, he has definitely been a disappointment.  I epxected more and thus far, he hasn't delivered.  That said, I don't know that someone like Parker would have given us muc more?  Maybe we would have gotten less.

In terms of Perk's replacement (JO), I think it is close to equal.  I mean, defensively they are comparable and offensively, JO is actually better.

Of course, the biggest problem is that we could have had both JO and Perk.  That is where the Shaq injury really becomes from and center.

Had Shaq been able to play, then I think the trade is a success regardless.  And if we are criticizing the trade because DA should not have trusted Shaq, then I get that.  On the other hand, when you look at the pieces that were exchanged and what we still had left on the team, then I don't think that the trade was a failure at all.

Miami has beat them at their own game twice in a row.

They need to find their confidence and swagger. The Garden can do that.

I think you are right though. There is something that no one can put their finger on with this team and I think it is confidence. It is a little bit shaken right now.

In game 2, Reggie Miller with the Celts down three said that this is the game that the Celtics always find a way to win...and then they didnt.

I think when Miami is going on runs right now the team looks unsure and tentative. Two traits that I have not associated with the Celtics in years. I think it is curable. I really do because you are right. They have a really good collection of talent on this team. Much deeper than Miami. Once they find that trust and confidence in each other again, it will turn around.
TP for a good post.

What missing is coaching.
What has our gameplan been in this series?

Frankly I have no idea. First minute of game 1 we are posting Rondo vs Bibby in the post. ::)2 missed shots, 1 offensive foul.  Ray manages to score 25 points on 9-13 shooting in the first game and in the second gets 5 shots after the first minute. Less than any other starter and Baby??

Then Game 2 Docs brilliant idea is to get KG 20 shots minimum while being defended by Bosh.

After almost 30 games together the second unit looks totally confused.

We manage to get Kristic 6 minutes in game 2 with a much smaller defender on him and he doest get the ball once.

What is going on? Where is the consistent gameplan to take advantage of our strengths vs the Heat? Where is the coaching?

TP to the OP. This team, as constructed, without Perkins and without Shaq, should still be crushing this Heat team.

The problem is not a lack of bodies or the requisite talent - it's lack of passion, fire and aggression. The Heat team is soft around the rim, we should be driving it down their throats all night but we lazily toss up jumpers from distance...

No passion - I don't see it. What I do see is a bunch of sourpuss faces on the court with no confidence. Why they would have no confidence is beyond me.

But they also seem to be fumbling the ball on passes alot - just unfocused. Which again, is beyond me as to how they could be unfocused.

Yes, we are missing a coach.Up tillnow, since 2007-08 we could get away with playing without one. We were pretty good so and we even won flag and the competition in the east was not that hot anyway. We even manage to beat the Lakers sans Bynum. They have won it every year since Bynum came back...... This year, the competition got much stronger in the East and we did not improve intelligently. We didnt have a coach that could work out any kind adaptation to the new stronger teams. So, the result is in the pudding.
