I think the odds that Shaq has already played his last NBA game are better than the odds that we'll see him in the playoffs.

Hey Guys I have a GREAT IDEA!!!

Let's trade our starting center because 39 year old Shaq is playing well, no way he can get injured!!! YEAHH!!!! This is the best idea since Hitler invading Russia.

Do we really want to compare a basketball game with Hitler?!   ???

I agree.  Sadly the last we will ever see of Shaq is him hobbling off the court after a brilliant 4 minute cameo at the end of the season.

Not really no lol. Was just a joke, it's just that the position the Celtics are in right now is very frustrating to say the least.  ;D

I originally liked the trade, especially when Kristic was overperforming and I thought Jeff Green just needed time to fit into the system. But banking on Shaq to be healthy was really not a good move in retrospect, which is a shame because he was pretty darn good when he played.

I fondly remember the days when you were an optimist ( and were ok with "the trade").  Now, I fondly read your comments for its pessimism.  ;D

It's such a shame really, but that's what you get when you put your hopes on the health of a 39 year old Center.

Shaq has been on borrowed time for quite a while now, how he's lasted this long is pretty amazing.

I had like a 12 page rant claiming everyone was overreacting to the trade based on the idea that our bigs would be fine with Shaq and we were obviously saving him for the playoffs.

Then I had like a 12 page rant overreacting to the trade based on the idea that Danny Ainge is a total moron who apparently had no assurance Shaq would ever come back.

I still say the trade would have made sense if the Celtics were 99% sure that Shaq was coming back.    It was moronic otherwise.

It all depends if he is physically able.  I don't buy this has anything to do with "rest".  If he could play, he would have been playing already.
Exactly

Ya... Im still in believe it when I see it mode dealing with Shaq coming back this season.

Shaq was already hurt when we made the trade.  The wrench in the works was the new injury when he came back.

Here's hoping we see the big guy on Saturday.  Even at limited effectiveness he helps our team a lot.

I would argue that Danny was banking on Shaq OR JO to get healthy feeling that while both might not return, one of them should and that one would produce as well as Perkins did in the playoffs. I have watched enough of OKC to say that Perkins is playing okay, but not great. He is not in great shape and so isn't getting down the floor as well. Next year he will be fine, but next year he wouldn't be on our squad anyway.

The biggest problem I see is that Doc is giving JO about 10 minutes too little, and BBD about 10 minutes too many. If this weren't the case I am not sure we'd be having this discussion. Green is playing better in stretches and next year will be an even more important piece of the puzzle.
