Celtics coach Doc Rivers said ailing center Shaquille O'Neal "looked terrific" going through an entire practice Monday, but soreness makes him doubtful for Tuesday's Game 2 of an Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Miami Heat.

"He looked great [Monday], went through the whole practice," said Rivers. "He was phenomenal, actually. ... But by the end of practice, he was struggling walking, so we'll see. I would say Game 3 is becoming likely. Game 2, we're not sure yet, but I doubt it."

So it went from "out game 2" to "doubtful"?

To be fair, Blakely was the only one who reported he was "out" in a tweet (which he made it sound like he heard it from Shaq, and not the C's), while Doc said that he was not counting on him playing tonight.

I'm confused. I think they need to role the dice and do what they can to get the win. Play him and let it play out. We're past the point of saving him. If he can't go today, I doubt 3 more days are going to do him any good. We took a gamble with the trade, no sense in not taking another gamble.

Tonight is our season and I don't want to see our guys go out this way, especially to those 3 crying clowns in Miami.

Just for the moment forget the issue of the supposed misdiagnosis and explain to me how the staff can clear him to play and have him reinjure himself so quickly? Its more than just age it stinks of incomptence. I guess its just conincidence that Phoenix can keep Grant Hill healthy enough to play 80 games this year and 81 last year at age 38.

All the credit for Hill goes to Hill himself for taking care of his body, and to all the games he missed during his career with he previous injuries which means he had much less milage on him than Shaq, and he puts much less force on his joints with less body weight. FYI, there is no real way to treat Shaq's injury other than rest, it's not the fault of the medical staff, it's the way it is.

Being Grant Hill's size at 38 and Shaq's size at 39 is two very, very different things, I'm not even sure why that's worth describing. Why are we talking about Phoenix again?

Shaq being re-injured doesn't necessarily prove incompetence, either. Unfortunate, no doubt, but this doesn't prove the medical team failed.
