I'm not so much sad that we lost Perk, as I thought many members on this board overrated him as well. However that is nothing compared to how much they overrate Jeff Green- future all star, first or second option of the championship celtics.

While his stats don't reflect it he really has been playing below average basketball. since he got here, and it has really hurt our bench whenever he is in there because he is pretty much stands around on offense, and plays bad defense. sure he scores some points but when you shoot some open jumpers a game you are bound to make some.

you can say he has never directly lost the celtics a game. however if you replace him with an average sf/pf bench player they are bound to bring something (rebounds, playoff defense, not turning the ball over, setting screens/ plays for others) that jeff green doesnt and this in turn might lead to the C's winning close games. greens only job is to not let the game get out of hand when all the bench players come in and provide decent rest for pierce and allen. so far he has done neither. so really what is his role?

Jeff green has had more than enough opportunities by now to prove himself with a good game. even players with half of green's "talent" wouldve done something noticibly positive for the celtics by now. but what has mr softie done? nothing. sorry to break it to you but green will not have a big game in this playoffs leading to a C's win.

Green was at least aggressive tonight, and if the same touches that were called fouls on Lebron were called when he drove to the basket he would have gone to the line a few more times.

More importantly, he played good defense on Lebron.

Its not just Jeff Green's trade.  What was the quote from "The Association?"

6 returning players from game 7 against the Lakers?

You cannot take a team's chemistry and just toss it into the wind and expect 9 new players to just pick up and continue.

Sorry, maybe if the Celts get a few series under their belt and some experience or maybe next season, but blowing up your roster does nothing but destroy chemistry.

But thank goodness DA got that 2018 2nd round draft pick.  We are gonna need it.

Alright, cool.

So lets give up all hope because we lost game 1 on the road when 3 starters didnt show up, and 1 got ejected. And Rondo didnt play in the whole second quarter (basically the whole game), and the refs were terrible. and James jones had the dream game of his life.

Seriously, not only is the series not over, its not even relatively close.
Like we've pointed out many times, we've lost

The "chemistry" stuff doesn't make sense. So when the celtics dominated the first half of the season, even though Perkins didn't travel or practice with the team, that happened because people had warm, fuzzy thoughts of one day playing with Perkins again? When the celtics were 4-3 with him as a starter (exact same winning percentage as after the trade), it was because they could feel the trade in the air?

In the rank of reasons the celtics lost tonight, the trade is somewhere between "the celtics were distracted by the miami nightlife" and "the game was played on a day that ends with a Y"

Green played fairly well today.

I don't think Green played any version of "well" today.  His defense sucked, his shooting sucked, his rebounding sucked, he had more turnovers than assists...  I thought he played very poorly.

Everyone played poorly in the first half. In the second half he didnt play bad. If he played very poorly, than what did Garnett play? Rondo?

Isn't it okay to say Jeff Green sucked, without making excuses for him or saying he sucked more or less relative to other players?

37.5% shooting, 0 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 turnovers, -9.  To me, that's not playing fairly well.

He wasn't the only one to play badly, but he was certainly one of them.

I won't put it on them exactly,  the whole bench Ainge patched together is useless.  Worst of the past four years.   They have given nothing.

Green has been consistently bad/invisible. At some point everyone is going to have to accept that he's not a winner or a good fit for a team trying to win a championship and stop making excuses for him or pointing to Perk's poor play to deflect blame from him.

Green is not playing well.  I think he's a player who needs big minutes, and that's not necessarily so that he'll have big numbers or gaudy stat lines.  He very well might not (in other words he'll do number-wise what he did in Ok. City).

What he needs big minutes for is simply to get into the flow of the game.  I used to feel the same way about Gomes, although Gomes got into the flow pretty easily and needed the minutes to produce better numbers, kind of the reverse reason for needing big minutes).

If he can get into the flow he'll defend better, which is my principal concern.  I can't say he's defending poorly, but he's playing chippy defense instead of just getting down and staying in front of his guy.....

He's not going get in the flow by fouling.  I'd like Doc to tell him to quit fouling, box out, rebound and stay in front of his man.

Everything else will come, maybe not in overwhelming fashion, but it will come.

Jeff Green may end up being the JD Drew of this team (minus the injuries) - people get mad at him because he doesn't show emotion, but wait, there's going to be a game where you say wow, Jeff really played well and helped the c's to victory.

When talking about Green, I have NEVER mentioned Perk.
