Yes.  I've thought he could do it all along.  Even last year when he was playing on one leg and missing shot after shot, he altered an awful lot of our shots.

And without going too far down the Perk/JO comparison, JO does a lot more in the shotblocking/shot alteration category than Perk ever did.  That doesn't mean that Perk doesn't do some things better than JO (he does).  However, JO is giving us a look we've never really had before: a truly elite shot blocker next to KG.

And as others have said, it's happened all 3 games.  He radically changes the defensive game out there when he's in and out.  The second Big Baby comes in for him, the Knicks take it to the basket.  And while I love the fact that Baby takes charges, a charge only works if you get it.  An attempted block can alter a shot even if you miss the block.

Best case scenario where Shaq is healthy and starting, with Jermaine AND Baby coming off the bench is awesome. With Celts healthy it's us and L.A. all over again. Payback would be unbelievable.Lakers look awesome right now though.

Bynum is not healthy. I don't think they can beat the celtics if we keep playin great and can keep everyone healthy. Game 7 with no shaq would be tough but doable with a healthy kg

Bynum looked healthy last night against the Hornets.

You know why?

The Celtics tradition, being inspired with other veterans who all have one goal. Great fans. All of these plus more have been reasons why Jermaine has pushed himself to get in great shape and get healthy.

You think he worked this hard last year when he blew in the playoffs vs the Celtics?

He hasnt been amazing. But he's been really good considering how he was before and He'll probably keep improving through the playoffs

Don't say he hasn't been amazing! He's coming back from a knee injury, he's 32, and he hasn't played a lot of minutes with this team. I think he's amazing!

I think what he means is if you look at the stats they dont pop out at you, but in terms of what this team needs and the fact that he's healthy yes it has been amazing

I suppose that's true, but I think people around here are more just talking about how unexpected this all is. I'm happy he has performed as well as he has so far.

  • It's all about the TEAM!
It went from us looking really weak to looking like "this might just work out". I remember when he finally had the surgery done and everyone was upset and saying he was a bust. Now he's come back and he's looking and playing healthy and like he knows he's got a chance at a championship and he looks hungry. I think he believes. And he's taken one huge worry off our shoulders in the process. I don't think we could have asked for more out of him given the situations he was under. He's paying off for us! And I hope Boston fans show the man some appreciation when he gets back on the home court.

Yea i dont think he looks great, not as good as before, but he's certainly a health risk out there and not at all dependable. Keeps tweakin his glass knees

Gotta say, when Jermaine is on the court I feel a lot more comfortable ... the paint just becomes such a fortress when he and KG are on their game, and he's scoring well right now, too. I still have to cross my fingers whenever JO's playing, though ... he's such an injury risk, but if he can stay healthy, I feel much better about our chances, (and Shaq gets more rest for the Finals).

He's amazed me. I admit that I was a doubter.  I didn't see him being healthy enough to be a major factor this year.

Thank you for proving me wrong thus far, JO.

His defense has been amazing.  We could use some decent rebounding to go with it.
