I took it as the celtics were really making a run and COULD do that

don't knock gorman we are so lucky to have him, one of the best in the nba

tell you what though, I had this constant feeling that the C's should have been up by a lot more than they were.  It felt like we were winning by a ton and we just weren't.  That always worries me.

that's what happens when you totally outplay a team but give them a ton of offensive rebounds and extra shots

I don't really expect much of a reply, but I needed to vent. When the Celtics when on a run towards the end of the third quarter and went up by like 10 points, out of nowhere Mike says something along the lines of, "The Celtics are going to win this by 25"!
Even my wife, who was playing on the computer in the room head shot up. Would he say nice no hitter to a pitcher in the 7th inning?
It was right after that te Knicks went on a 15-2 run and the game went to the wire. What is wrong with the guy? He's been an announcer for 30 years. Does he know nothing about jinxing?
Thanks for the space to vent and Tommy, next time he says something like that, smack him.

I'd love to be able to watch Mike and Tommy broadcast these games.

Instead, I have to listen to Marv and Steve fawn over Carmelo Anthony. I'm a little embarrassed for them, to be honest.
TP   Agree 100%   I'd love to have Mike and Tommy but CSN blacks out the game here so I have to watch the network guys.  UGH!

In general I'm not knocking them. I have the choice of TNT or CSN and I choice to watch Mike and Tommy, it was just a very weird thing to say. It wasn't at this rate they could win by 25, it was a pronouncement. And yes I do believe in jinxes and I don't think I'm the only one. As i said, I don't know anyone who would mention a no hitter while it was happening.

Michael Kay (broadcaster for the Yankees) is a firm believer that announcers have ZERO impact on the game. He goes out of his way to make sure everyone is aware of no-hitters/perfect games every chance he gets. Literally every half-inning after like the 3rd he mentions it. I personally hate it because it is so disrespectful, knowing how much it means to some fans. He makes everyone uncomfortable, including his partners who are former players.

Yeah hard to argue with this one... The games play better on TNT for me however... I love Mike, but i wish i could listen to Van Gundy, Jackson, and Breen every game.

Take Jackson out of that equation and I'd almost agree...With his "Not in my house" and other idiotic lines.....Jackson sounds like he assumes that all of his audience has IQs of 6th graders.

I'll take Mike and Tommy.  Tommy has been much sharper this year than in the previous few.

Actually I was thinking the same thing as Gorman was.  I thought we were going to run away from them after that short run.

so now people are into jinxes and blaming the play of the team on the announcers?!?!

Exactly my thought.  No such thing as jinxes.  Nobody's thoughts, actions or comments matter other than the players, coaches and referees.
We all think we know more than we really do....

WHAT! How can you possibly know that to be true? That's just you're beliefs.

Just because you don't believe in them doesn't make it so. Jeez.

lol...please explain the rationale that "jinxes" are real.

how does a spectator making a comment impact the players, their play, the officiating, or the coaching....all of which dictate what does or does not happen in a game?!?!

nice argument, lol.

easy for me to explain my stance.  a spectator making a comment has no influence in a player and their play, the coach's ability to coach, or the officiating.  a spectator's remark has no bearing on the outcome of games, as it is a comment and not part of the physical game which dictates the outcome of that particular game.

To follow up. There is an old story of a guy who gets on the bus everyday and screams " NO TIGERS!" One day the driver asks him why he does that and he responses it's to keep tigers from getting on the bus. The drive tells him no Tigers ever get on his bus, to which the guy replies, See it works.

That's how I feel about jinxes.
