Toney Douglas Last Night

I apologize if this was discussed at length in a thread last night, but...

How embaressing was Toney Douglas' pick and roll defense last night? I honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing. Did anyone notice when he tried to use the Dwight Freeney spin move to get over a pick? I've been refreshing NBAPlaybook every 5 minutes just hoping for a screen grab of that.

I was a little nervous about him because I think he makes the offense work a little better than Billups does, but jeez, if he keeps that up I can't imagine what Rondo's numbers are going to be.

He can get really hot shooting the ball, but running an offense and playing defense he is really bad.

There were a few others besides the Freeney spin that were particularily mind boggling, but him intentionally turning his back to Rondo to try to get over a screen was insane to me.

They should really reconsider the length of time they want to spend backing off Rondo, because that's not helping much either.

Douglas is actually a pretty good on ball pressure defender. I had no idea he was that bad in other phases of defense though.

Rondo was making him look silly.

I'm not sure if he was scared of getting fouls called on him considering how thin they currently are at the position. He was constantly moving out of Rondo's way. He was so bad I just can't believe that's an accurate depiction of who he is as a defender.

I don't know how many others noticed, but after a few of those bullfighter defensive moves early in the game, he actually had teammates yelling at him to stop the ball.  That's never good.

I understand wanting to play off Rondo a little but at some point you have to stop giving him space and it should be well before he's within 6 feet of the rim. I'm not kidding, I was literally laughing out loud watching him defend those late pick and rolls. Simply stunning.

PS: Stuff like this is why I really miss Zack Lowe being at Celtics Hub. He was superb at breaking down the x's and o's of Celtics game. Nice to see him doing a terrific job at SI though.

I think the Knicks did not plan for Rondo to be so personally aggressive on the offensive end.

It's a good thing Rondo was attacking instead of looking for something that may not have been there in the first half.

For someone who is smarter, has a better basketball brain, and has more drive than me - a site that breaks down the X's and O's of Celtics games would be a very interesteing site.

This. I have never seen anyone just move out of the way and let someone get a layup on anything other than a 1 on 1 or 2 on 1 fastbreak until last night.

Douglas's thing coming out of college was supposed to be his defense too. I guess playing for the Knicks would make KG a bad defender .. Lol. Although, strangely they've been playing good defense this series, or you can say its our bad offense.

note to knicks when you get rid of your roster to get one player you are going to end up with holes, as the playoffs wear on you might see miami's subs looking like this

I was shocked by his defense last night.  In college he was the ACC defensive player of the year.  How about his tackle on Rondo with 3 minutes left in I think the 2nd quarter?  He just bullrushed him.
