Just don't rush him back.  I don't think a game or 2 without him will matter much against the Knicks.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

He has a strain, bill walton he isn't.  If we can use each oneill 20 minutes a game that is all we need.  Or they can take turns taking every other game off.  I personally want a lineup at times of kg at center and run!

It looks like New York is going to be starting Ronny Turiaf alongside Amare.

It'd be nice to have Shaq back to use against Ronny. Gives the C's a nice advantage.

Even Krstic, Jermaine, or BBD should be fine against Turiaf.  From what I saw last night, Turiaf can't defend any of them.

Shaq and JO are the only two players I have any confidence in defending other centers from here on out. Turiaf is about as bad a center we will see from here on out (I say that after seeing Joel Anthony and Ilgauskas outhustle us, which Turiaf also brings). We'd be looking at Noah, D12, Bynum, Duncan, Chandler, and/or Perk.

And yet I still don't trust Krstic or BBD against even Turiaf. We need decided advantages at PG, SG, and C, because the forward positions will be close matchups. Rondo SHOULD check Billups fine, and Ray should start getting good looks against their defense, the only real question is Shaq right now (and Delonte, of course, but to a slightly lesser degree).

They'll be fine -- Turiaf isn't a problem by any means -- but they wouldn't create the advantage that Shaq would against Turiaf.

I would think that Turiaf can defend JO, Krstic or BBD reasonably well. He has enough size (6-10, 250lbs) and defensive chops to a credible job in the post / paint area against those guys and enough quickness, mobility and length to cover BBD/Krstic away from the rim.

In contrast, Shaq's size (7-1, 300+lbs) creates a major matchup problem for Turiaf. He has no hope of containing him in the post or contesting his other shot attempts around the rim.

None of those guys (BBD, JO, Krstic) are prolific rebounders either so they won't punish Ronny's weak rebounding either. Shaq is a strong rebounder.

Turiaf's limited offensive game does free JO up to be a disruptive help defender though.

The Celtics will fine without Shaq against New York but it'd be nice to have him. It'd cause NY's starting lineup more problems.

Shaq's gonna eat Turiaf alive.

He looks explosive.  Maybe I was too quick to give up....  But I still say it'll be tough for him to stay healthy.   Knicks in Six.

He looks explosive.

There must be another video out there besides the one linked above.

If this is Shaq's new standard of "explosive", we're in trouble. ;)
