This is ridiculous. One thing money shouldn't buy is passion, that is the basement to be a fan.

I'll never get this about american pro sport, I'll never understand how a team belonging to a particular place move to another, change name and fans, just for little more money, or market, or whatever.
It's like considering people "pro" fan: one day you cheer Sacramento Kings, and all of sudden it's over and somebody else who never watched a NBA game become the greatest Whatever Kings  "fan" from one day to another.

This is brutal, and superficial above all.

I'm italian, and despite so many problems we have right now, there's a thing I like about it: soccer teams are an extension of the cities and the places they belong to! The sport side becomes history, culture, tradition.. It's irreplaceable, and you can't move it, because it would be meaningless.
The Celtic in me.

  • TRANSFORMATION INTO CHAMPION COMPLETE!!!
And of all places to try to move them to... Anaheim. It's not even a real city!

If your going to move, move for real go to Seattle, or a bigger market.

How quickly they forget...

Good call on Seattle. That photo is outstanding. Loved watching that Sactown team when I was on the West Coast and the Celts were in the Pitino dumper. Such a great team to watch. Totally got robbed at least once against the Lakers ... (can't we retroactively remove one of the Lakers championships given the Donahey scandal???). Oh man.. . .

Sacramento is a broke city with a populace that can't afford to adequately support the team.  It's not anybody's fault (except for the Maloofs, who have wasted their investment and thus necessitated selling the team).

I can't fault the Kings for moving away from a city that doesn't have the money to make them a profitable franchise, though.  They are a business, after all.  In an ideal world it shouldn't happen, but that's how things are, I guess.  Maybe in the new CBA there will be revenue sharing measures to allow teams in smaller, less wealthy markets to continue to compete (contingent upon them showing a willingness to keep spending and not just pocket the funds).

Sacramento can support a team just fine, they just don't want to subsidize them for a new sweatheart arena deal. The Maloofs don't have any money from their other business and the Kings on the court are terrible. Its hard to attract fans wheny our team is in the middle of a long rebuilding effort.

The arena they're moving too isn't much better, they're hoping for a better TV deal.

Man, the talent on those teams was ridiculous - Turkoglu,  Gerald Wallace, and Scot Pollard off the bench too!  It's a shame their 2002 run ended so controversially, that unit deserved a ring.

Too bad for Sacramento, the fans there were great and they deserved better.

I feel sad for the Kings fans. At least they didn't go quietly.

They had a very loyal fanbase, and they always made theirs one of the loudest arenas in the league.  Really sucks for them.

The city itself is broke, though (like many cities in California).  They can't afford to subsidize a nice new arena.

The whole area of California is in a really poor financial situation, too, so the fans don't have a ton of disposable income and certainly no willingness to put their taxes into the team.

Very sad. I could never imagine the Celtics being taken away from Boston, the Kings have amazing fans and they deserve to keep their team but, $ makes the world go around.. & apparently NBA franchises as well.
