Danny is the King when it comes to doublespeak. Danny for President -- he'd fit perfectly.
Yeah pretty much. And as a GM, that is a huge requirement for the job. I just wish more people would realize this instead of reading into every thing he says...and this goes double for the "journalists" who are the ones who really cause the problem. They always either portray the quote as being much stronger than it was meant to be, in order to support the headline, or they completely take it out of context.
I think people also need to use a little common sense with this as well. Particularly with this injury, how could they possibly know, with any certainty that Shaq would be back on Sunday? He has not had a real practice. He has been out for 3 months minus the 1 game he reinjured himself in. And the ongoing theme throughout the time he was out was that his status was changing day by day, and he kept being pushed back.
I really think people are just hearing what they want to hear, and ignoring the actual words and context which clearly say "we don't really know"
I just wish they'd take a Belichickian "He'll be ready when he's ready" approach.
The problem is, the only reason Belichick gets away with that is because he won a championship his second year here (right? or was it his first?), and established himself as the best in the game within a year or two after that. So, basically, he can say anything he wants, and he will get close to a free pass.
However, if anyone else pulls that in this city they get absolutely torn apart by the press.
Basically, he is darned if he does, and darned if he doesn't.
