Is he going to play again? and for how long? This reminds me of 2009...sort of. Our hopes hinged on KG that year...and this year, its Shaq. :(

People forget how good we were before he got injured. We were still an elite defensive team and the offense looked better than ever. That was without West, Green or JO.

So the question now becomes: How many games will Shaq play in the playoffs? If he plays every one of them, I'm confident we get 16 wins.

I just hope he makes as big an impact as JO did on that "body block" on Bron yesterday... I'm sorry but JO at his age, probably felt it more today. NBA is soft. No wonder Pau enjoys playing here.

I don't think you can just say that. I'm sure if we didn't have Shaq to start the year and just had JO/Krstic to start the year we would have had a pretty good record too. We have started off very well in each of the 4 years when the big 3 have been here. So maybe part of the difference from the first half of the season to now is the absence of Shaq, but also a large part is that we are historically (the last 4 years) a better team record-wise the first half of the season that the 2nd half of the season.

Another way to avoid that problem would be to try making plays that have some relation to basketball when attempting to break up fast breaks.

And more on topic than my prior remark, to add to Jsaad's initial comments, the Celtics also score approximately eight more points per 100 possessions when Shaq is on the court than when he is not.

That's a lot of points.

I was looking at 82 games the other day and found that our two most common lineups were the "big 4" + Shaq, and the "big 4" + Davis.

The really stunning difference was that with the Shaq lineup the FG% differential (between what the Celtics shoot vs what they allow their opponent to shoot) is 14% better with Shaq than Davis.  That number is truly staggering to me!

Yup.

Key reason for this: How shot selection changes with Shaq on the court.

Which is why I worry when you had someone like Perk, he is able to contest without fouling would have most likely tried to go for the block and if he didn't get it at least altered the shot force a miss etc

Shaq and JO on the other hand should surprise no one they could be in constant foul trouble

What the team needs is a defensive presence in the middle.  Those 5 minutes that Shaq played the other night the team looked great.  Shaq looked great.  I kind of think that Shaq got a cramp in his leg and not a strain.  The Celtics saw what they needed to see in those 5 or 6 minutes and shut him down using the cramp/strain as an excuse.  They want him fresh just like he was to start the season.

If Shaq comes back, and the team wins, the Perk trade doesn't look quite as bad.  But, lost in the talk about struggles is that it wasn't just Perk that was traded.  It was 1/3 of the team.  Since the trade, the Celtics have had very few practices and so they are working in 5 new players on the fly.  That is difficult and so the whole team is struggling.  Getting those 3 or so days off between the end of the season and the playoffs will do this team almost as much good as getting Shaq back.

I'm not a big fan of Baby but another reason for this is that Davis has played a lot of minutes during the team's slump while Shaq has been sitting out. And, yes, I realize that Shaq would lessen the slump but things beyond Glen's control have definitely affected those numbers.
