We need closure

We fought a lot

If the Celts win the title or get close and especially if Krstic and Jeff Green play well everything will resolve itself.

If they don't and especially if they lose in the first round or badly in the second we know this is gonna get ugly.

Until they win I'm referring to the trade as The Magic Beans trade.

I hope I end up sooooo wrong.

I just think we all need to mentally and emotionally and spiritually prepare for the next few weeks.

It's gonna be an interesting ride

I disagree entirely with the idea of judging the trade by how everything pans out.

The trade was bad the moment it happened, and the results aren't going to change that.

You're not going to judge something by the results?

I liked the trade at the time and still like the trade now.  The problem with this team has nothing to do with those particular moves.

I have trade fatigue.  All I know is that as of today, the team is worse right now than it was on February 23.  Hopefully, by the time we play our last playoff game, it will be improved over the February version.

If it is, we'll be smoking cigars and sipping champagne.  If not, we'll (or at least, I'll) be rooting for the OKC Thunder.

You're not going to judge something by the results?

While I think the results matter, there's also something to be said for good process/bad process.

...  and I think it was a bad process.  Wagering your best chance at this year's title on the health of two of the most injury-prone bigs in the league.

Interesting. Can you please expand on this?

It's just like making investments, or playing poker.  You aren't ALWAYS going to get the outcome that you want, there are too many variables outside of your control.  If there are only two cards that can beat you, going all-in is the right decision even if one of those two cards comes up at the end.

You've got to play the odds.  If your process is good, you'll be right more often that you're wrong.

In a nutshell: For any number of reasons - sometimes luck, sometimes randomness, sometimes any variety of external factors outside of your control - a good course of action can lead to a bad outcome or a bad course of action to a good outcome.

Example: There was a lot of debate in these parts about how the Celtics handled the regular season last year.  Should the entirety of that assessment rest on whether or not they won the championship?  If you believed (as I did not, for what it's worth, but that's another story) that the team handled the regular season correctly last year was that no longer the case because Perk got hurt in Game 6, the team got outrebounded in Game 7 and the Celtics didn't win the championship?

Results aren't irrelevant by any means, but as David Arnott wrote at Rufus On Fire last December, they need to be "properly contextualized and weighted" in these sorts of discussions.

I see what you're saying. I guess we need to discuss the process. I just feel like it was in his control. He had the best team with a great player returning.  Then he blew it up, and now we aren't as good.

Kiss away a title so we can save some money and have a possibly somewhat better team for a while longer.

EDIT: what the_Bird said suffices as a far more succinct (and thus effective) explanation of what I was going for.

I've accepted the trade the night it happened. It happened. There are no redo's.

I'm not going to overreact to their poor play down the stretch, because they were equally as bad last season. You can talk about the health last season, but we were missing a decent C since the trade up until JO came back for limited minutes a few weeks ago.

I'm also not going to take any stock in what LeBron, Kobe, or whoever else have to say about the trade. If Danny swapped Perk for D12, they'd say it was good, they lost their toughness and intensity. I don't know why anyone would expect them to say anything other than they are happy about it.

The Big Three, Rondo and Shaq will have the final say on how good of a trade it was.
