For those of you who feel this season ended today, or Thursday, or February 24th, what would you like to do going forward?
I think anyone who has read my posts know how I feel about this team and our chances this season, so I won't bore you with my personal rhetoric. I know a lot of people are justifiably upset with this team, their recent efforts or lack thereof, and would like to know what you would like to see happen if this season truly is over.

Does it really matter what we think? It's not up to us anyways.

It all depends on what happens in the playoffs so just wait until then.
Celtics' turn on switch for the playoffs: the last bastion of hope for battered Celtic fans.

Well, we've seen threads that ask us to assess the Perk trade before the season is over, so why not ask what people would like to see happen next year? Especially if one believes we won't make it out of the first or second round, it seems like a legit question to me. It's cool if you'd rather not participate.

If the Celtics don't make it to the NBA finals then it might be time to blow the team up.

That means goodbye to Ray Allen, Glen Davis, Rondo, you name it.

I would keep Pierce and Garnett and literally build the team around them with a new supporting cast.

Zach Randolph would be a great addition but doubt the Celts would have the money to offer him.

  • Rondo = Good
Trade Rondo to a team with a top 5 draft pick (e.g. the Kings) OR to a team willing to give up a decent future piece (e.g. Josh Smith)

Sign free agents to 1 year contracts to fill out the roster - doesn't really matter who.

Let Doc Rivers resign and make Lawrence Frank head coach.

Start the process of compiling young assets and draft picks over the next few years, hope to get lucky and become like Portland / Denver / OKC and maybe, someday, Chicago.

I wouldn't want to overpay Baby, but some team surely will. If by chance he trolls the market for more cash and comes back to Danny ready to resign a comparable contract to the one he currently has, does Danny do it? Would you?

Absolutely not.  We don't need roleplayers like Davis moving forward, especially not on long term contracts (which he'll want).

Let him get his payday somewhere else.  After this season it's time to start rebuilding.

If some of what we've heard about Garnett are true, if there's a lockout there's a chance he hangs the hi tops up for good. He's got plenty of game left, especially if he were coming off the bench for a contender, but maybe his odometer will determine that, not the allure of more money or another ring...

If he retires, that's probably for the best for the Celtics.  Free up space and allow the Celtics to lose more games moving forward (and get better draft picks).

Danny Ainge should be looking around for a Daryl Morey type guy to help him out with compiling assets.  Daryl is really really good at that.  I think it's only a matter of time before the Rockets break onto the scene.  That's what the Celtics need to try to emulate.

I'd sign and trade Green and Davis, keep Delonte, draft a future big, and spend the MLE on whatever else we need.

I agree about KG. Love the guy, and know if it wasn't for him this team wouldn't even have the third seed. But I do remember the decline of the original big three, and Red's unwillingness to let go, which resulted in a decade of hot garbage. If you see this window as closed, do you regret Pierce's contract?

Only somewhat.  I want Pierce to retire as a Celtic, but I think his contract is a hindrance to a necessary rebuilding process.  Pierce doesn't want to be part of a rebuilding effort.  Perhaps he will retire, or perhaps we'll be obliged to trade him to a contender for a couple pieces and a draft pick.

All logical moves. I feel Green is a very good player, despite what we've seen, but is better suited to a starting role where he feels he is a more important part of the team, and not an afterthought. I also feel he needs a preseason with a team to be effective. But having Pierce be your starter for the next couple years makes having Green here kind of foolish, especially if he wants 10 mil a year, coming off the bench.

I'd like to see Pierce retire a C, from start to finish. The problem is, it really doesn't make room for a change at SF, in terms of value for money. I mean, we wouldn't go sign a FA small forward for similar money to come off the bench would we? Same if KG stayed?
