  • Rondo = Good
Let's assume that the Celtics get beaten in 5-6 games in the second round by the Heat.  That appears to be where they're headed at the moment.

If that's how it plays out, who on the current Celtics roster and coaching staff would you want to hold onto this summer and beyond?  Is there anybody on the roster you see a need to hold onto beyond the retirement of the Big 3?

Personally, after what we've seen this season I don't think anybody is untouchable.

Rajon Rondo -- I'd only be willing to give him up if we were getting a top 10 talent in return.

The rest, if they were blowing up the team, I am not particularly committed to. Especially with the C's 2012 cap flexibility on the horizon.

Other than the big three, Jeff Green, Delonte West, and Kristic. Everyone else IMO is expendable.

I’d prefer to get rid of Rondo, BBD, and Avery Bradley if we can get something of similar value for them.

No one is giving you a top 10 talent for rondo.

As long as Rondo is running your team you will be prone to offensive droughts against solid defensive teams.

He cannot be an efficient offensive player unless he miraculously develops a jumper, a foul shot and hence a willingness to get to the ft line. Very unlikely to begin in his 5th year in the league, imo.

According to many on this blog players are most efficient with the type of even shot distribution this team has. If this is the most efficient he is going to be he will be useless once the big three are gone

When he is traded (and I think it's probably a matter of when, not if), Rondo will not be worth as much as most of the people on this blog will think that he is.  He's an extremely inconsistent and generally overrated player who is often as much a liability to a team as he is an asset.

He's still a very good point guard a lot of the time, but he's not a franchise cornerstone, and he's not worth top 10 talent.  After the Big 3 retire, the Celtics will probably be better off trying to trade for a scoring wing or a solid big man prospect and then rebuilding through the draft.

He'd have been worth quite a bit more earlier this season.  His coming undone in the second half has unquestionably hurt his value.

Does Rondo get blame for Ray's slump too? If we need to find one member of the big three missing in action I'd say Ray has disappeared like the first half of last year when he was almost traded. You did see that late run by our team that was prob ruined by Ray. Now some of you wanna blame our allstar point guard because he is why the team has crumbled in the second half three seasons in a row now. What a difference a year makes when a player is lauded and now shoulders the blame for lack of interior defense, rebounding, helping all star Ray get going. It just all his fault, oooh even his body language is bad....whatever, player hate all you want.

Rajon Rondo is the only guy to consider keeping when they blow up this team.

You'd rather keep Krstic than Rondo? Sounds like a great way to run this team into the ground.

Indeed.  That's probably ideal, though.  Trade Rondo for a future piece and hold onto players like Delonte and Krstic on short term contracts.  Run the team into the ground, get high draft picks, hope to get lucky.
