I'm considering getting into Twitter. I'm not sure of the pros and cons or what to do.

My twit fate is up in the air.

What are the potential pitfalls?

Very useful for keeping up with news and finding articles that you wouldn't normally find. Also, for sports, great for finding statistical tidbits that once again, wouldn't normally be found in articles. I highly recommend it. Also, a great way to spread your own products/articles if interested.

I use it to get the new music first from artists, before they hit the websites.

Sports, I follow Brain Scalabrine's fake twitter. It's hysterical. #whitemamba

I like the spontaneity of twitter. On fb I feel like I always have to think of something clever or important to post while on twitter I can just say what's on my mind. I also like the ability to follow celebrities and keep updated on my news, using it almost like an rss feed.

My only disclaimer is that twitter privacy is even worst than fb, but since it was started that way, no one cared. If you're going to be tweeting personal stuff, you may consider making your twitter private to hide from employers and others who google you.

get one. fastest way to get news, imo. whether it's about the NBA/the Celtics, or about local news, or about shows or new albums or anything of the sort. it's kinda like a Google, but it constantly searches to your preferences from the most reliable sources you've allowed (usually from the celebrity or insiders or news channels themselves)

so yeah, it's great. but like anything, just don't get hooked on it. the only privacy you have is "locking" your account which means that only people you approve can see your tweets. but i don't bother. i mean, if you have a deep personal issue or whatever, don't post it on twitter. it's not the proper channel. a blog might be better for you if you wanna talk real deep.

Meh, we created a twitter account for our company but I truly can't understand it.  I mean, I know we need to have it, because everyone else has it and you have to try to access every avenue you can to reaching people...but how many different social utilities do people need to tell you about the nice thai restaurant they visited last night in Beverly.

I love Twitter.  Depending on who you follow, it can be very entertaining, instructive, and there's no better way to get breaking news in the NBA than on Twitter.  You can follow tweeters who send daily quotes, interesting facts, historical facts, Bible verses, etc.  You can follow celebrities to get the behind the scenes stuff. You can follow Celtics players and all of the Celtics beat reporters.  Just a great source of information and entertainment.

I use it to find information. I dont see any entertainment value in it, as i'm not a follower of celebrities, just athletes and reporters. It's fun when you actually get a response from someone. I havent been on lately but I used to talk to Nate, Larry Fitzgerald, Jason Miller and A. Sherrod Blakely regularly.

I've found Chris Forsberg and A Sherrod Blakley to be the most valuable guys to follow (my opinion of Blakley has gone up 1000% since following him on twitter). You can also find former Celticsblog author and current ESPNBoston intern/author Greg Payne on there too. Twitter is good news bears for getting the most up to date info.

Fair warning though...in the offseason (when free agency heats up) and at the trade deadline, you WILL BE ADDICTED TO IT...so there's that.

Seriously, I hate twitter most of the year, but come free agency and the trade deadline i'm always on there, heh

Its perverse, but one of the reasons I love twitter from the beat reporters/espn guys is because they are completely reckless. Everything they hear that they can't corroborate but think is true they put on twitter.

I was thinking the same exact thing. Troy Murphy to Miami, huh?

Yup lol, loved Marc Steins tweet like 5 minutes after he first said murphy to boston and spears said miami.
something like "Murphy to BOSTON B.O.S.T.O.N confirmed to me himself" kind of a slap in the face to spears lol

Don't do it man.  Facebook either.  If you just want to see what celebrities are doing then I've got nothing to say to you.  If you want unconfirmed sports news rumors go ahead.

If you want to be social then be with people, not your computer.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale
