In a perfect world were we can overspend to keep are own players.

If the owners didn't care about The Tax, how much do you really think we needed to offer.

Judging by this article I think 4 years 30 million would have sealed the deal.

"The celts offered 4 years 22 million Perkins told CNNSE.com"

"Your talking four years 30 million Shoot! That's different, that's a big difference"

Do you really think it's "that bad" that are owners can't afford an extra three or four mill in Luxury tax.

 Cheap Cheap Cheap.

To me the "tax" or how much it would have cost the owners or the team or whatever was of little issue. The main issue here is having a highly paid role player taking up cap space once the big guys in our team come off the books. Which means, that rebuilding our team would be that much harder.

Wrong and Wrong. Is it a sure thing that we are blowing it up after this year.

Lawson drove past him with ease tonight. It was Ibaka who blocked shots.

Not even worth 30 mill over 4 years. Im not fooled by rebounds off missed free throws.

how much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck was chris bosh?

I'm a huge Ibaka fan, but Ibaka is kind of like unrefined Marcus Camby. He's just 'okay' at defending bigs or being a defensive anchor on his own.

He needs a steady hand like Perkins to do the dirty stuff, the non-stat line stuff, that he won't or can't do.

Ibaka does block shots, and he'll always look better than Perkins on a stat line (although not in rebounding..Perk's been a machine in that regard, at least compared to his tenure here), but he can't replicate what Perkins is bringing to the table on the defensive end.

The Perk trade is indication to me that this team will look dramatically different after the 2012 season. That's one of the reasons Perk isn't here, they weren't willing to commit past that time.

I agree. What Perk does won't show up in a stat line. He's a great compliment to Ibaka.

I thought 4 years/22 mil was the maximum extension that the Celtics could offer at the time. As in, they could have offered Perkins more after this season, when his contract would have expired. Still, I'm ok with the Celtics saying he wasn't worth more than $5.5M with his limited offensive skills.

No one said anything about "after this year". This is more of 2-4+ years from now. Regardless of when we end up doing it finally, you can't restrain the team with someone like Perk. If his contract year was a couple of years ago it would be a different situation entirely, but we're really reaching the end of it even if one is optimistic.

In the free market, I don't think Perk would have settled for a 4 years 30million deal regardless.

Perk won't be worth 8.5M in 2013/14 or 9M in 2014/15. I love Perk but DA made the right move.

Serge Ibaka = Kenyon Martin

He can be a part time center in small ball lineups but he doesn't have the size or physicality to be a full time starter at the five. At least, that is not how he is best utilized. His skill-set is as a defensive four.

Ibaka needs a big body center to play off of (defensively).

yes, they offered him the most they could at the time - OKC only was able to offer him more because they had more cap flexibility - we could have offered him more this offseason but it would have been a bidding war of sorts (depending on the CBA) since at least 3 teams were seriously interested in him - including the Heat

I think this is 1 million percent correct.

If we signed Perk to a deal like this our franchise would be in trouble for years to come.  Perk is a great 5th starter for a team that has alot of talent at the other positions and needs a defensive center, which is why he is perfect in OKC.

If we were to sign him going forward to the OKC deal, past the big 3 era you would have Perk and Rondo on the books and that is it.  His value drops considerably when he is one of the highest paid players on the team.  Perk is not a guy you build around, he is a final piece to the puzzle type of guy for a championship team.
