“It’s not easy for me to sit on the bench, which has happened to me quite a bit in Sacramento’s last few games,” Casspi wrote in a column published on Israeli sports website ONE.

“The situation in Sacramento is not like it used to be in the past. Coach Paul Westphal is experimenting and trying different things and I’m certainly not in his plans. We have six more games until the end of the season, and although I won’t say that I’m counting the seconds, it is clear to me that I will have to make some decisions at the end of the year.”

“I know that there are many teams, including some playoff teams, that want me ahead of next season,” he wrote. “I hope to find myself in a team that appreciates me as a player and a person, a team that plays like a team.

I'd love Casspi. Marquis Daniels' trade exception is larger than Casspi's contract. Daniels' execption + a first round pick for Casspi (who will still have 2 yrs left after this season at a very affordable price) would be a dream come true for me. I think also with the right coaching Casspi can be a real potent player, able to play either the 2 or the 3, and a good defender as well as a scorer.

Is Casspi worth pursuing with Pierce, Ray and J.Green already on the roster?

Are there enough minutes available for him? Will he have a big enough role?

I think with the right guys around him, Casspi can play the 2, 3, or 4.

I imagine we can find minutes for him (this is of course assuming BBD does not return).

Meh.  The dude's losing playing time to Donte Greene.  I'm really skeptical of his ability to defend.  He's a poor man's Peja / Danilo.

Hmm...  if he was available for that price, wouldn't Danny have just taken him back in the Marquis salary dump?

Who knows, maybe he really isn't in Sacramento's plans, and we can get him cheap.  I do think he'd be squeezed for minutes -- especially since I think Danny wants to bring Delonte back at the 2 -- but it would be worth exploring.

Casspi was playing about 30 minutes a game back in January and February.

If he is longer in the Kings plans, I expect that decision was only made recently.

It sounds like the decision is more him than Sacramento, and his recent playing slump might just be Sacramento evaluating its roster and showcasing some guys (Donte Greene) to see what they'll do in the off-season.

With Marcus Thornton's arrival and his success there, I imagine he is a guy they want to sign long term and consider to be a long term 30+mpg guy. Either as a starting two or as a sixth man.

Then you have Tyreke Evans and Beno Udrih is still under contract. So those two, plus M.Thornton, that is likely all the backup minutes accounted for.

Then you have the small forward position with Francisco Garcia, Omri Casspi and Donte Greene. I'd expect one of those small forwards to be made available this summer. I think Garcia is the most likely to be kept (largely due to his contract, also his experience).

So Casspi or Greene ... I think one of those two will be available for a trade this summer.

Personally, I would be very happy to have either guy on the Celtics.

He is similar to Green, so there isn`t that much need for him after the trade for Jeff. Still I would love to have him for a TE+our late first rounder...

i am from Israel, and would love to have an Israeli player on our team.
regardless, i have no idea what Westphal is up to, it looks like he can’t figure out a roaster, Casspi as well as other players on the Kings, changing roles too often, from a starter to bench warmer and back to starter within very short periods.
he needs to make up his mind!

He'll be out of Sacramento soon enough, when the franchise moves to Orange County --  ;D

Yeah, I haven't been impressed with Westphal this season.

He seems to be creating more problems than solutions down there.

Casspi is probably the guy who's progress has been hurt the most by Westphal.

Guys like that draw attention

I have literally watched about 98% of Omri Casspi's games as a pro. I have barely missed a Kings game since league pass became available.

To the person who said he could play the 2-3-4 ... I will give you 3 and 4. Omri playing as a shooting guard would be a mess. Jeff Green is better suited as a 2 than Omri at this point in his career. Outside of his 3 point shooting, Casspi has no other above average offensive skill. He cannot dribble to save his life (very scared to even try, very nervous with the ball). On a very good day he is an average passer, but he does not have good court vision. When he does get the ball near the rim he rarely finishes (shoots it too fast .. again with the nerves) He will finish open dunks though. Layups are not his thing... not alot of touch around the hoop.

His other above average skill is rebounding. He can rebound pretty good for an NBA three. Not elite level rebounding but he is solid there.

Where he really struggles is defense. Just cannot stop anyone. He is an awkward runner, if that makes sense. He is a good athlete, but he doesnt have the lateral quickness you want in a defensive player. Has trouble staying in front of quicker guys and cant match up with the bigger physical players. Its unfortunate, because he does try. He is very competative, but that hasnt translated into good defense yet. Maybe it will, but watching him for two years now I have my doubts.

His shot, while decent (from 3 only, not a good mid range shooter) is very streaky. Recently he has been on a cold streak shooting the three .. so when your shooter cant defend or give you anything else on offense AND is struggling with his shot ... its hard to justify giving him minutes, and that is what is going on right now. Donte Greene is a very streaky shooter too, but he is a very underrated defender and that is why he's getting the minutes right now.

All that being said, Paul Westphal is a nutcase head coach. These roles could flip in an instant. He has one of the most severe cases of rotation ADD I have ever seen. LITERALLY, a player can be starting one game then demoted to 12th man the next night. I've seen it happen multiple times this season.
