The Celtics were on full steam before the New Year.

Then KG's injury (which a lot of people thought could be season ending) brought the Celtics back to Earth and made them realize something:

The Celtics have ZERO chance for a championship without KG. The same goes for PP, Ray Allen, and Rondo.

Ever since then, I feel the Celtics have been putting a lot less energy into easier games. If they can win, then well and good, but otherwise they don't seem to overexert themselves.

Arrogant? Yes Frustrating? Yes Risky to lose HCA? Yes

But ultimately HEALTH trumps all for the Celtics. I think a .500 record the rest of the way seems realistic, and all things considered it could be a lot worse.

Let's save the Panic button for the playoffs, enough overreacting to losing to the Pacers.

We all know the Pacers (and just about every other team in the NBA, save for the top 6) have no chance against a healthy and motivated Celtics team.

And Philadelphia
And New Jersey
And Houston
And Memphis
And Bobcats. At home. And the cats played without their best player.
And JUST getting a W agains't the Wolves.

I don't think anyone would overreact to one lose to the Pacers.

This is all true, but none are playoff games.

It ain't over till it's over. Since when did the regular season mean much?

Look at the Spurs record, people were talking about them going 72 wins and now 1-2 injuries and they look like 1st round fodder. Even they aren't done until the playoffs.

HCA vs the Lakers is when it means something. If Boston had it last year we'd be looking for number 19 now.
Without it this year we'll see Kobe helping  the Lakers to 17 rings.

See I disagree with that. The Celtics lost a game at home last year, they could've sealed it then.

The main reason they lost is because they lost Perkins, you can't lose your starting center in the middle of a playoff series. Period.

People seem to forget that, I imagine if Perk was healthy we would've won regardless whether it was in LA or Boston.

We don't know that for sure. But my gut tells me that we'd won.

That said, we DON'T have a starting center right now. Not a real one anyway. And until we get Shaq back we won't have one that can give us anything.

And Shaq played really bad agains't LA this year when he was around.

Shaq was obviously injured in that game, he missed games right afterwards, can't judge him completely on that (tho he is 39, and that is troubling)

And the Celtics blew the Lakers up in Staples Center then lost a huge lead at the Garden this year, I still think HCA is overrated for these guys.

You are right about one thing though, without their starting Centers getting healthy the C's aren't going anywhere but to the retirement home.

And I see this as a problem. I find it hard to believe that Shaq can go 4 rounds into the playoffs and stay healthy. He's shown us nothing this year to make us think he can.

Hope I'm wrong. I really do.

But I fear I'm not.

I'm not optimistic either, but we won't know until it's playoff time, so let's not jump to conclusions.

Danny Ainge made the trade knowing that Shaq would be a starter and I really don't view Ainge as an idiot (yet at least).
